Prairie Dog hunt in Nebraska under consideration.

I'm thinking about hosting a Prairie Dog hunt in Nebraska in 2013.

Governor, Senator, and CMH Winner Bob Kerry of Nebraska has been known to hunt with us,
and would be invited and has a standing invitation to our events and property.

In this heated political season, I have met many trolls online, and
I fear that this could get out of hand, being a person of Moderate views
and friends that I will not chance to alienate.

Will this forum cool down after the election, or should I forget the whole thing?

I may not agree with his politics, but the man is a true American hero, no getting around that.  How many people can say they even met a Medal of Honor winner, much less hunted with one?

My opinion is worth what you paid for it, but I wouldn't see any problem, especially out of the politically hot season.

Heated arguments with people that are also carrying weapons and have the credentials that they know how to use them are best filed under 'Not really a good idea'.   ;)
An armed society is a polite society. If I can get along on friendly terms with those in the office that consider 0bama as being too moderate/centrist for them, I can assuredly get along with fellow shooters.
With that said, I'd like to throw my hat in the ring for this shoot. I get 27 vacation days/year and will need to burn them up.

What an honor that must be to hunt with Robert Kerrey. I would consider making the drive if it happens. I don't really have a varmint class Handi rifle. Can I use a 45-70 instead?  ;D

Bob lost the election.  I don't know how this effects any plans going forward.

He's an incredible jogger, even with a prosthetic leg. A very inspiring, upbeat
guy.

To me, the purpose of the event is to shoot PD's, not discuss politics. One thing I was told growing up is to not argue about politics or religion - it is a no win situation and will tick off most folks, unless they agree to start with. One thing that everyone should have in common is their love of the hunt and guns, discussions should be centered on that. Personally, I have never met a MOH winner, I would feel it was a privilege to do so, regardless of party affiliation.

I would love to go. I have hunted with a friend that ran for state rep a few years past in SD but the plague had wiped out most of the large dog towns. We usually shot between 500-1k rounds each in a week so I would pass on the 45-70.

In the past pd hunts nobody was making an inventory of the guns being used.

Sounds like fun, I have just the hardware for it.  The holdup is we just gave birth to a pair (twin Boys) of future gun nuts.

It is in 22-250, I wanted the fluted barrel varmint model, had to build it myself from the new heavy barrel.

I would also be interested if the hunt pans out. The Gov lived in his home town of Wahoo,this is also my home town. The wife played tennis with him when they grew up in Wahoo.

I've spent the Spring checking dog towns in between working calves and moving snow.

The 2012 drought killed a lot of wildlife. Deer got blue tongue.

Something has hit the PDs pretty hard, too.

I usually shoot with AR's in .223 and 6.5Grendle, a 40x in 7.62 Nato a Savage 110FP in .223 and something different like .458 win mag (Ruger #1) .405 Win (R#1 and a Winchester High Wall) and a .357 Mag in a Marlin lever action (the MOST fun one).  Last year my first one was with a Martini 12/15 in 22LR.

They ALL work!
