Octagon Barrel with FG finish?

So I was putting pencil to paper, dreaming of the FA I would feel justified dropping 2500 on. I saw that you could get the PG with the FG finish. So it got me wondering if one could have an octagon barrel (on a PG) with a FG finish. Anybody have any insight? Again just dreaming.....But someone ,AKA my wife, wont stop pinching me!!!!!

Nice to know I'm not the only one who prefers the matte finish
 
that is precisely what I wanted ordered, and got--a '83 Premier 500WE 7.5" Octagon with the matte finish. At the end of the day, it was an additional 80 some $ charge. Oh yeah, it was in '11; sometime in 1st quarter
 
But, as you remarked, it was more of a matter of them agreeing to it as they don't offer a octagon barrel on the field grade. Btw, i think there's a photo of this FA on the "FA eye candy" thread. Let us know how it goes!

Congrats on your upcoming purchase, I really like the look of those octo barrels. Regarding the 2 finishes, maybe those that have both can chime in, I only have the PG.
 
A buddy of mine has 2 FG's and told me the finish on his mar and scratch very easily, and is next to impossible to get the marks out. He says his next FA will definately be a PG for that reason. I have no clue how accurate his claims are, take it FWIW.

Well, you already know that FA will not put an octagon barrel on a FG gun, and as Benny 123 has posted above, you can get a PG octagon with a FG finish for the appropriate upcharge.

I have owned a number of both FG and PG guns, in some cases for more than 20 years. I really do like the smooth FG finish, BUT one should be aware of the fact that like all matte finishes, if a gun acquires some scratches and dings with normal useage, they cannot easily be blended in with the FG finish. If one wants an as-new finish, the gun must be returned to be re-bead blasted.

On the other hand, it takes only a few seconds of CAREFUL use with a Scotchbrite maroon pad to blend scratches into the normal PG finish. I have done so numerous times to a number of guns.

Only each buyer can decide which way to go.
