Which 22mag rifle
« on: February 12, 2013, 12:18:51 AM »
I want a super accurate 22mag rifle and I'd prefer it to be a semi-auto.  :o any ideas.

I have a CZ 611A right now. Is the older CZ 611 enough better to be worth the cost ?

For a super accurate & dependable semi-auto in .22 mag..you almost HAVE to go with CZ..  Scroll down the page and read the testimonies of owners.  http://www.cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-512/

I'm a big fan of CZ/BRNO but every example (other than a couple of 'presentation' grade guns) of their older rimfire autos I've examined looked like the stock was made in a high school wood shop. Never could understand that, seeing as how the wood on their bolt guns is generally very well done.  ???

Magnum Research makes one that is kinda sorta a clone of the Ruger 10-22 but of much higher quality and more accurate. The MR guns are basically what folks spend big bucks to turn their 10-22s into. The only Ruger part on it is the magazine.

I have one in .22LR with the carbon fiber barrel and Hogue over moulded stock. Super light and super accurate. With ammo it prefers such as the CCI Mini Mag HP it shoots half inch and better at 50 yards.

Were I in the market for another .22 Magnum I'd get one just like the one I have except in 22 magnum.

My Rem. 597M is quite accurate and 100% reliable, but if TOP accuracy is what you seek, i'm with GB on this one!

I also have a great affinity for the 22 magnum.

I am not a huge semi auto fan in a rifle or shotgun... IF I had to have one, I would first look for a Browning BAR M. These can be costly, but not allot different from my second choice... Its the SAME as Mr Bill.  ;) I very much like what I see in a Magnum Research 22Magnum. BUT know that its NOT recomended to be shot with LIGHT bullets.. 40g + is what you will need to stick with.

I've been looking for a semi-auto in .22 mag.  Have been told Remington and Ruger recalled all of their guns, due to bolt problems.  Magnum Research has been the only recommendations I have had.  Since I can not find the Semi-auto I like and feel comfortable with, I am now looking for a pump.  I like pumps just as much as I do semi-autos.

Heres a video of Tom Knapp..using a CZ/Bruno .22 mag auto.  He starts out with the Benelli shotguns , but switches to the .22 mag at about the 4 minute mark:
 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOMfAA4tN6E

Yes it's Tom Knapp and most of us can only dream of coming near his skill level.. but if the accuracy isn't in the rifle.. even he can't bring it out..

Buying an accurate .22 mag is a "crap shoot"...   I had a .22 mag which shot very well (an Anschutz) but gave it to my grandson upon his coming home from Iraq duty which included sniper work.
Since then I tried a couple bolt .22 mags to replace the Anschutz,   but 1.5" groups at 50 yards are not good enough.  I about gave up..trading my last, a very pretty Marlin with cinnamon laminate stock, for a Savage 93  in .17 HMR...which duly impressed me.
Then one day i was visiting my local dealer and spied on his rack, a new Savage 93F ..plain-Jane with fiber stock.. @ $179.  I just HAD to give that a try!
Well, that little Savage is the first one I have seen that will shoot right along with the Anschutz I parted with about 6 years ago..  If you were looking toward a bolt..I'd send you that way, but auto has to be CZ..
I have just one CZ..a 452 Special which I had that same grandson cut & crown (about 6.5") for me (he's also a gunsmith).. it shoots like a dream..

I don't think that's accurate info...  Yes, Ruger discontinued theirs, it had a LOT of problems!

As for Remingtons, i believe it was only the 17's that were taken off the market.  I'm still seeing new Rem. 22 mags around and i haven't heard of any problems with them other than early magazines causeing some problems when fully loaded.  My 597M and my friends 597m's, are still working perfectly...

I have used about 3-4 boxes of each of the three Remington 22 Mag offerings. I offer the SP best. But mostly because it was one of the first to offer a SP. they all shoot well. The green tip is not worth the $$ they try to get form them. ;) as a matter of fact, Hornady 22red tips shoot better than most and they go for 11$ a box... Not the 20$ Remington green tips go for!!!

It was SO long Remington never made 22 mags it still seems strange when I hear someone comment about Remington 22 magnum ammunition.

Why pay more for Remington green tip, when you can buy Hornady or CCI?  CCI loads the 17 HMR. and .22 mags for both Remington and Hornady anyway, although, Hornady builds the bullets. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.17_HMR
(check the paragraph below the .22 LR photo..)    I have heard this stated other places also

Actually they are ALL made by ATK, and they make Fiocchi and Federal 22 magnum rim fires too!!   ::) BUT I believe some of the bullets may come from the manufacturers as you said. Fiocchi bullets look just like CCI but Federals are just a bit different.  :)

  Yes;
The Fiocchi mags below are obviously CCI Gamepoints..Then there are the Remington "Maxi-Mag" hollowpoints. But those Fiocchi 22 LR s look like Aguilas to me.  It seems like Fiocchi CCIs are a bargain, while Remington puts a premium price on their CCIs.
