"loose barrel fit" update
« on: February 25, 2013, 04:49:45 PM »
I sent my 257 Raptor barrel back to Gary Reeder and he tried it on 3 of his frames and said it locked up tight on all 3. He even offered to send me his frame with return packing slip to varify that it did lock up tight. I should have sent my frame with the barrel but all my other barrels lock up tight on both of my frames eccept this one so I figured it has to be the barrel. All I could do is have him send my barrel back. He told me if there was an accuracy problem he could fit the barrel to my frame. I am totally confused how this could be and don't dought Gary just confused. Any thoughts?

Try swapping lugs with another barrel or three.  Is your hinge pin worn or loose in the frame?

I swapped the barrel lugs from my other barrels, same thing,  all other barrels lock up tight. The lugs from this barrel on my others they lock up tight. The hinge pin fits VERY snug in this barrel with just a small amount of play in the frame. My other barrels have a little play in the hinge pin hole but they still lockup tight. It makes no sence. I am going to try a stronger lug spring from Mike Belm and see if it makes any difference. I also have a larger hinge pin coming but I'm sure it won't fit the barrel and I don't want to ream it.
