UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED!!!

BS!

I have ridden a many a mile when I was a kid in one of these.
I had the chance a few years back to buy one in a convertable that had been restored for a reasonable price.
Wish I had bought it.
NICE RIDE!

In the late 70's I had a 72 Corvette and a 66 Corvair at the same time. The Vette stayed parked most of the time.
The Corvair also worked as a hunt'n buggy, put a deer in the trunk with it's head tied outside and you wouldn't believe the looks I'd get driving down the road.

I never got bit by the 'Vette bug. My first car was a '69 Fairlane with a 302 Boss (At least that's what it said on the engine.) Actually, I never got bit by the car bug--- if I want to go fast, it will be on two wheels. My car is a Scion xB (looks like a toaster!) It does everything I need a car to do, plus it's amazing in snow and ice! Mostly I ride the Moto Guzzi, unless it's cold. The 'Vette is pretty, though, but Chevys are usually better looking than other brands, IMO. For working pickup trucks, between the two I'd rather have a Ford, but the Chevys are still prettier. (I'd probably get a Toyota, anyway, if I was buying.) I'm just not a car guy.

There's a car enthusiast joke that I find memorable, although I think it's too snide:

"Corvette? It's OK, but after all, it's still just a red Chevy."

I'll never own a GM or Chrysler product.  Not even for free.

YEA RIGHT! Someone offer you a car like that for free, and you will tell them to give it to someone else ::)  Fess up! You know you would take it.......Even if it had 500 Shetland Ponies under the hood instead of 1000 horses ;)

I don't think I'll own any either. And not for ideaological reasons. It's because they haven't been able to compete with better car makers. My wife has owned two Dodge mini vans. POS, if you know what I mean. High maintenance. I see my cars going strong for many more miles than hers, and with far fewer problems and lower maintenance costs.

I'd be happy to take one for free, though. I wouldn't feel so bad about the bailouts if I got a piece of the action.

At least Chevy never came out with a four-banger Corvette II.
EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW-- the Pintostang, but they sold like hotcakes.

Does not say much for the American public, BUT, it was the sole reason that GM continued with the Camaro and Firebired.
With all other pony-cars gone, people bought what was still around.

Despite the fact the Pintostang sold by the hundreds of thousands, that fact sales of Challengers, Barracudas and Javelins was up to a not small degree in their last year, should maybe have raised a few eyes.

How I miss the days when each make had its extremely loyal following.

I remember having heard: FORD, fix or repair daily. YES, but on a quiet night you can hear a Chevy rusting.

I remember the rusty days of the mid-70s to early 80s. I worked for a Honda dealer and the cars were rusting before they ever got off the docks and into the dealerships. My neighbor was a Ford salesman, and a true loyal believer in the excellence of Ford products. It broke his heart to see similar rusting on the showroom floors during those days. He lamented, "what am I supposed to tell my customers?". He really cared about Ford as a brand, and his customers.

The companies that have brand loyalty are the ones that deserve it. Honda, Toyota, a few others. Ford makes darned good cars. Hyundai makes some great ones.

The kindest thing I've heard about Chevy lately is that the are making the best cars they have ever made. Unfortunately other companies are making better cars than that.

That Vet is purdy, but here is the only sports car that I would like to have , if I had the spare change. I still dream about them. Yea I know! And I'm almost as extinct as Studebaker ;)

Back when I installed two-ways in police cars and fleet vehicles, (I used to work for Motorola) We used a hole saw to cut the hole in the roof for antennas. The little circles of metal that came out told the story. ALL GM products, even brand new, had unpainted interiors, usually with rust already starting. BMWs, Mercedes, all Japanese makes, and all Fords were primered on the inside. Says it all...

Well, one could buy a post-1980 Porsche and have a hot-dip galvanized body.  :)
