Parent group says Sears, JCPenney pull advertising from ‘Saturday Night Live’ over Jesus-mocking skit  By Hollie McKay

  •    The "DJesus Uncrossed" skit aired Feb. 16 on "Saturday Night Live." (SNL/NBC)
Next Slide Previous Slide   “Saturday Night Live” is known for pushing the limits, but the NBC spoof show may have gone too far with a recent skit that mocked Jesus.

The inflammatory Feb. 16 skit, inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s excessively violent “Django Unchained,” was titled “DJesus Uncrossed” and depicted a post-resurrection Jesus (played by host Christoph Waltz) slaughtering Roman soldiers with a sword.

“He’s risen from the dead,” the narrator announced. “And he’s preaching anything but forgiveness.”

The skit didn’t go over well with two of America’s oldest and largest retailers—JCPenney and Sears. Both stores decided to pull their advertising from “Saturday Night Live,” according to a press release issued Tuesday by the American Family Association (AFA), an organization which focuses on the social implications of television and media.

The decision came after AFA and its supporters notified both major companies of the show’s recent portrayal of Jesus Christ “as a revenge-seeking murderer is an affront to all people of faith, especially Christians” and subsequently encouraged them to pull their advertising from the show and the show’s website.

“NBC would never do this to any other religious group, but it’s popular in Hollywood circles to go after ‘crazy’ Christians,” Tim Wildman, president of American Family Association, told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column.

AFA claims that Sears were apparently the first to pull the advertising plug, but as of last week JCPenney had not responded, prompting Christians around the country to petition the mega-retailer to follow in the footsteps of Sears.

And now it seems they have done just that.

Sears sent a letter to AFA, thanking them for bringing the issue to their attention. A Sears rep told FOX 411 that the company has “taken steps to ensure that our commercials do not air online exactly as they did in this situation."

JCPenney reps have not spoken about the controversy, but the retailer opted not to advertise on the next ‘SNL’ show and promptly removed their ad from the online version of the controversial episode.

The AFA is now urging supporters to call the headquarters for Sears and JCPenney, or leave a comment on their Facebook pages, thanking them for taking a stand.

“As long as corporations support this kind of offensive material, their sales are going to suffer as shoppers abandon retailers that support blasphemy. I hope folks can reinstate their patronage to these stores and that Sears and JCPenney can stick with the good decisions they have now made,” Wildman added. “When you embrace television programming with no morals, you can’t possibly embrace the public you are trying to sell to.”

JCPenney and NBC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

God will not be mocked.
A lot of recent history has proven that.
I love Sears, more stores should be like them.

As a Christian, I find it rude, crude and offensive to mock any religion. I don't watch programs like Saturday Night Live. They are trash peddlers, and just show the mentality of people who watch them.

So, the money worshiping pseudo christian CORPORATIONS defend jesus in the only way they know how--- by taking away the MONEY? It figures.
If you give up, THEY don't have to win.

how does a corp be a christian ? that is akin to Walt Disney giving human traits to critters makes a nice story but it really can't happen.
So as a liberal you advocate shopping where you don't like ? You feel it worthy to support corp's that you don't care for ?

Ahh, there's the catch. Money worshipers are NOT christians, hence the "pseudo." They worship money. They just SAY they are christians, so the others who say they are christians will go there to (guess what?) Give them more money. There's a pattern here...

Yes comrade the government should step in and force those bigots at Sears and JC Penney to continue to spend their advertising dollars on a network that airs something contrary to their beliefs. After all the 1st amendment only belongs to the left!

God will not be mocked.
A lot of recent history has proven that.
I assume you are referring to recent natural disasters? This is a root problem that I currently have with religion. I constantly hear that god is a loving god, that he loves all, but then I hear someone say that a natural disaster that wipes out hundreds of people was "god's will" or god was punishing people for mocking him. Why would a loving god do such a thing? Why would he send a hurricane to kill hundreds of his children who probably had nothing to do with offending him just because some jackass did something stupid on the idiot box otherwise known as television? Why wouldn't he just punish those who angered him instead of wiping out a bunch of people who were innocent?

The first is going to be with God is the goal of life so being called is a good thing not a punishment. Second seldom is it hundreds killed to get one but large numbers who are leading others to sin and is it really God causing it or is it those sinning who lead themselves into a trap ? Takle New Orleanes can we say God punished them or did their desire to live in a city full of sin cause them to live in a dangerous location and be victom of natural events. In effect their excluding God from their lives was the problem not the rath of God. You see I believe it's God's will for us to have good lives it is us who cause the trouble not God. This could go on but I suspect you get my ideas.
I also see your point and the controversity the hell , fire and brimstone guys cause.

the skit would have been bit  humorous if it had just been a few seconds but it went on, and on, and on, and on.
It does not matter what subject might have  been spoofed in that skit. It just became a mindless asinine act of moronics quickly.

I rarely watch SNL nowadays but I turned it off after that skit.

It seemed to be a deliberate insult to the movie Django and Christians and it worked at that.

No Lakota, i in fact was not.
I was thinking more along the lines of people like John Lennon and Madalyn  O'hair.
They both mocked Him and sadly both suffered quick and violent deaths. There was a good chance that neither had the opportunity to prepare thier heart for Him.
Galations 6:7 "Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows."

If you want to look at this on a larger scale. Look at how our 'leaders' have publicly turned thier backs on God and measure that against the immoral state of affairs our Nation is in.
At birth, God bestowed upon each and everyone of us the greatest responsibility there is....FREE WILL.

I'm sure Sears and JC Penny have their share of Non-Believers in their corpo world, that are smart enough to realize, that as bad as their sales are compaired to the Big China Mkt, they need all the customers they can get, and cannot afford to lose anyone after church on Sunday ;) It's about sales.........Not their belief's.I cannot imagine a family oriented company ever sponsoring a dung heap show like SNL.

Interestingly, or rather, Hypocritically, J.C. Penny is on one of the many lists of companies supporting gay rights....so they are selective about how Christian belief is maligned.
