H&R 158 Topper
« on: March 13, 2013, 06:18:47 PM »
I have a H&R 158 Topper 12ga w/30" full choke barrel. . I bought new for $35 in 1974 when I was 12 years old. Mowed lawns all summer to get the cash.

I would like to get an extra 30-30 barrel. Will the factory fit an extra barrel if I find one?

No, as stated on the accessory barrel page they'll only fit  barrels to modern frames that have serial numbers that start with H or N, they'll only fit 30-30 barrels to frames made 2000 and later, although they will fit 357 and 44 mag barrels to frames made 1987 and later, the M158 was made 1984 or earlier.

Best advice is buy a used barrel in the H&R Classifieds and fit it yourself, see the barrel fitting info in the FAQs sticky, modern barrels should fit the M158 frame, I have an M158 30-30 barrel on a modern frame, works fine, the vintage barrels are much lighter contour than modern barrels.
