In my experience, Winchesters and Marlins, both will jam, it's not just Henrys.

having had experience with Browning, Winchester, Ruger, and Marlin lever guns in calibers ranging from .22 rimfire (short, long, and long rifle) in Marlin and Browning, .44 mag in the Ruger, and 30-30 in Winchester and Marlin.  With these I have never experienced a jam.  Is this something to do with the .45-70 chambering?? or have I just been lucky these past 40 some odd years??

Jams just happen sometimes. Sometimes it's not the fault of the gun eather. ;)

I am thinking the issue might be with short stroking the lever since the length of the .45-70 is about the max length you can cycle through a standard or normal lever action.

I only had one jam in a win94 in my life and it was my fault it was with my trails end 45colt and it was because I short cycled the action.

I would not worry about a jams with a Henry. I have three of the Big Boys (357, 44 mag & 45 Colt) and they are very smooth and less sensitive to jamming than my Marlins (1895 45/70 or 1894 44 Mag), Winchester (94 in 44 Mag) or Rossi (45 Colt). Straight walled cases can jam easier than bottle necked or tapered ones and require brisk working of the lever in most guns. The 45/70 as mentioned earlier is long and kind of straight walled. My Marlin 1895 Cowboy requires a brisk full swing on the lever to not jam. The 30-30 being bottled necked works great on all lever actions I have tried including the Mossberg. The Henry 45/70 in the pictures looks like a prototype to me. It does not look the very polished 30-30 I have handled that is similar. If it is like most Henry's I will have to buy one. Rossi has a 45/70 but they tend to be a little rough on the inside for my tastes so I may have to pass.
