I wouldn't alter a 7.62x39 in any way.  Just now, they're super hard to find.  Keep it as it is and find something else to play with or sell it and get what you want.  JMHO.

I agree with Pete, did you see what the last 7.62x39 barrel sold for?  What's that phrase, everyone is so fond of using?  "They're as rare as hen's teeth!" ;D

I also found that if you spend the time with it, you'll find out they are some pretty accurate shooters.

My quandary, I personally, don't think I have enough Handi's but, I know I have more Handi's than I really need or should have.

I'd a lot rather see you rechamber a 300 BLK.  By the way, there is a Savage 99 in the classifieds in 300 Savage!

That reminds me...the 7.62x39 is a .311" bore not .308" like the 300 Savage.

BINGO!!!  Of coarse you could still do it and have a .311 Savage ;) but factory ammo would likely be woefully in accurate.

If you must have one the 300 BLK or a stub job is about your only option...  The 300 blk would have a pretty short barrel tho...

Personally I would have a stub done.

Tried a bullet in the muzzle and tight as it was I believe the .300 Sav. would work. These &.62 handis must not be .311 inna bore :o .Looked at the sight Dinny suggested, and I believe it would be an easy conversion...
However me Old granny always taught me to listen and respect me elders ;D so.

Petemi and Gendoc, to name a few, really know how to make those x39s shoot.

If nothing else, you might try using their names in the advanced search to find what works best. ;)

Thanks, Dinny

Mines .311 and very accurate. I can't find it here any more but 123gr soft point American Eagle ammo was so accurate I could not make it better w/my handloads. Kurt
