Daylight saving time...
« on: March 12, 2013, 11:17:16 PM »
I understand the historical uses for changing the time twice a year but why don't we just stay on it year round today?

Arizona has it right. They don't do it. Started as 'Victory Time'.  DST has no benefit.  Another government power grab,  they can control time! If a workplace changes their hours seasonally, fine. Leave everybody else alone.

A big reason for not doing DST year round is so little kids aren't waiting for the school bus in the dark.
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

I remember seeing a poster once, had an Indian chief on it. It said,'' Only white man could cut a foot of blanket off one end, sew it on the other, and think it was longer".   ;D gypsyman

There are little kids out there waiting in the dark right now.  In the winter they come home in the dark.  There is only so much light at northern latitudes no matter what.  This summer, those of us who still WORK will be trying to go to bed in the light, noise, and heat.  It would give me a little time to do chores after work in the winter, but summer has enough light anyway.

It is mostly to benefit the golf/barbecue crowd nowadays.

My 2 boys complained the loudest around here. The bus picks them up right at 7, and it was just starting to break daylight before the time change. Now, their out in the dark again, waiting for the bus. It'll be May before they get daylight again in the morning. gypsyman

I think of it this way... I really don't care if I go to work in the dark but having some"light time" after work would make winters seem shorter and cause less cabin fever.
Just another worthless opinion!!

I don't care if it is standard time or daylight time, just pick one and stay with it.

My Dad used to say that DST was just a way to give a fat cat banker another hour of golf time. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D
