45-70 As Cast

Rifle is a uberti High Wall made for Cimarron Arms. Just wondering if running an as cast bullet that measures .460 through a barrel with a groove diameter of ,456 is too much. It chambers fine and accuracy is great to the point of under an inch at 100yds. By the way no leading problems and am using 35.0grs of IMR 3031.

My BC slugs at .457 and my Lee mold drops at .460-461. If it chambers, it shoots.

I would size them .458 in the sizing die.

Study after study has shown how dangerous distracted driving is yet people continue to talk on their cell phones while driving. Driving in the U.S. requires your full attention. Many states and countries have made it illegal to use a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle and the federal government should follow their lead. Banning the use of cell phones while driving would have the added benefit of making the no-texting law enforceable.

Why?  It can only get better when you size, but you have to do it properly. He says '1 moa or less' but maybe there are fliers.  There has to be.  Look, I just casted 70 45-70 bullets yesterday and just for discussion, I weighed them.  There was weight variation.  After sizing, they are all within a half a grain.  I use a push thru sizer with LBT soft.  Then it goes into the lubesizer for LBT hard.

I just ran a test using the saeco mold 883 round nose bullet. before sizing the dia is .460 and after sizing .458. I used Lee liquid alox tumble lube on the unsized bullets and rooster lube in my lube/sizer.  new starline cases and 32.0 grs of RL-7 and a CCI 200 primer. shooting this load with the unsized and sized bullets showed me that the Buff Classic rifle shot a tighter group with the unsized bullet..so I will use the unsized tumble lubed bullets and continue my load testing in the Buff Classic. maybe I can tighten it up some more trying different powders...JimP.

Because of the extra large chambers the Italians put on the rifles , if you size the bullet below .460 it will be to small for the throat and the freebore they put into the things. So by sizing down you would get some leading into the throat, and accuracy will go to pot on  you.
