Looking for your opinions . im looking at the ultra hunter 45/70 , or the handi grip 45/70 . Is there much difference in shootability and range . between the two . thanks for all your input.

IMO... no difference in shootability or accuracy... the thumbholes are very nice, but heavy beasts... I cut my BC down to 26" and the Ultra down to 18"... BC with Skinner peeps... Ultra with low mounted 2-7X32 scope... I am personally not happy with the fit and feel of the Handi grip synthetic... some like it, I suppose?

I don't like the feel of the Handigrip style stocks either.  I really liked the Hunter, but prefer having iron sights, even if I do put on a scope, for back-up.  So I made my own "hunter version" so to speak only blued barrel with sights.  ;)  Buds does have the std. .45-70 wood and synthetic handi's in stock also.  ;)

I'm short, got a short neck, like to keep my head up shooting, Handigrip feels OK to me.

Im 6'1" x 210ish and the UH fits and balances nicely for me. Im not a thumbhole stock guy so mine wears the UV Cin.Lam. MC and an old El Paso Weaver 2.5X; nice package and good shooter.
