Ammo , WHEN ?
« on: March 15, 2013, 10:39:07 AM »
Ok it's been in short supply for some time. I was in one of the local gun shops today and ask the owner what he though would be the earlyest we would see ammo in quanity once more ? Well his ansewer was not good. He sais 4-6 mos ago he was told by suppliers in 4-6 mos it would be back in stock. Now they are saying 12 -18 mos. before we see any . That could be two hunting seasons for many hunters. Just an up date .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I'm not disputing that there's a serious shortage but have to say that as of yet, our local gunshop(s) are receiving both ammo and reloading components in ample quantity to have maintained a fairly normal stock of stuff, throughout this run on supplies. Inflated prices are the norm of course, but here in charlotte we're getting what we want for the most part. Our biggest gunshop received enough powder and primers last week to fill all the open spots on their shelves and to go back to selling primers by the thousand. $89.00+tax for a thousand  :o

Not so here in Alaska.  Sportsman's Gets the biggest shipments and they are only recieving 1/4 of what they are ordering.  Wal-Mart is not recieving even that much.  Heard Sportsman's got in some .22 RF, it was gone in 20 minutes, with a two box limit.  Wal-Mart can't get .22 ammo.  They keep ordering, but nothing comes in.

The small gun shops are not able to get anything from their suppliers.  No powder coming in for anyone.  One dealer who always has powder, and recieves shipments twice a month, has not recieved anything since Christmas.  I'm running low on Retumbo and W-760.  May have to start using other stuff to feed the 25 & 30-06s.

Bears will be out soon, need ammo.  I have enough for me, but other folks will be running out.  One of my hunting partners is a cheapskate and don't like to keep extra ammo on hand.  Now he is hurting, he can't find 300 Win Mag or .375 H&H.  I don't shoot those calibers, so I can't help him.  I'll end up loaning him a .350 Rem Mag, and a box of shells for the bear baiting season.  He came by yesterday looking for .308 for his Grand daughters gun.  The only .308 I have is 7.62 NATO, he refuses to shoot that, so he is out of luck.

Our Governor is trying to entise gun and powder makers to move to Alaska.  I think we need to just open out own plants and make our own supplies right here.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

There is a high demand for ammo now. If there wasn't, people wouldn't be paying higher prices for it. I believe there is a shortage of ammo right now because of the high demand of it. Sure there are people that are buying all they can get, and then selling it for a higher price, but how are they getting a higher price for it? Simply because of demand. Its the reason JohnnyReb saw 1000 primers on the shelf for 90 bucks. Obviously there are people paying these high prices for guns, ammo, and reloading supplies, or the price wouldn't be that high.
Do we think the boat loads of ammo the Dept. of Homeland Security is buying might have something to do with it?
Without a doubt you can buy ammo if you are willing to pay the high price, but ask yourself, why are the prices that high?
People are fearful of their government, and they are fearful of civil unrest, and that is why there is a shortage. It isn't all because some are reselling on gun broker for higher costs. Its because many are stock piling, for their own personal use. The guy in the video says don't pay those high costs for ammo. Sure that would bring the cost of it down, but it won't decrease the demand for it. Supply and demand = costs. What he is saying is lets decrease the demand for ammo, but it won't work that way. You are not going to tell people to quit buying something they want right now.
The four basic laws of supply and demand are.
If demand increases and supply is unchanged, a shortage occurs, and the price goes up.
If demand decreases and supply is unchanged, a surplus occurs, and price comes down.
If demand remains unchanged and supply increases, a surplus occurs, and the price comes down.
If demand remains unchanged and supply decreases a shortage occurs, and the price goes up.

How much is powder, if anyone can find it?  With primers at 9 cents, if powder more than doubles, and bullets at 70 cents or more, a round of .308 will cost well over a buck, if you have brass.  Last year when I started loading for .308, and could find very little range brass, I figured that it was cheaper to buy the regular factory stuff, and save the brass.  The only way I saved was having the once fired brass.  Since then I have found some good stuff at the range, and saved a few boxes.

This takes the fun out of working up a new caliber.
Some of us can't pay way high prices, so will have to cut back on reloading and rely on what we already have.  The .22 really irritates me, as that is the kids plinking round, the starter round, and is really the most useful of ammo for most scenarios.

Powder is running 26-30.00 per lb.

Consider shooting cast bullets maybe. I picked up over a thousand .308-.310 gorgeous cast bullets from various molders here on GBO for a VERY fair price. Its like a lifetime supply at my rate of shooting this caliber. 4 lbs of powder runs 130.00 and primers were about 100.00 for 1000. That's about 350-400.00 for the components to make 1000+\- .308..    j

Its simple , ruin the economy , drum down wages , increase foreclosure rates and the time involved.
Play class warfare ,stir up racism , dilute America with other cultures not loyal to this country .
Then it will get to the point the only thing anyone wants to buy is the ammo .
Even the guns are not commanding the price of what the ammo is just to shoot them .
People who stockpiled during the good times are having to sell their ammo just to survive !
I've seen investors buying up any ammo they can find just to sell it and make a profit .
They don't even own a gun , but they do have money .

Dry up the 22lr they can use it to feed themselves . Force the majority to become ammo less then
find out where it all went and then focus on them as a much smaller group .
The public will turn in guns for a little cash as penny's on the dollar , especially if the sellers have
no way of shooting them . Then what good are they ?
Oh they have found our Achilles heal alright and the 2nd amendment says nothing about
ammunition . Oh you can argue all day about fair trade selling a product .
But what law based on the Constitution is being violated if someone with millions wants to corner
the ammo market ? It didn't stop the oil company's now did it ?
Then as people turn in their guns just to eat or stay in their homes , guess what !

You have tons of guns plus all the ammo to use them you would ever need !
Its just another angle on communism 101 guys its just gotten a lot smarter this time around is all.
But there is a fly in the ointment in this and having lived around communism I can tell you what
that is . And it is a way to put it right back in their faces as an even bigger problem for them to
deal with .
