Freek, that has to be one of the best ideas I have heard on here yet. This way one doesn't need to remove a nipple to switch to using a fuse. Maybe also thread a screw into the business side of the hammer to keep the brass from mushing. And... the the cartridge is probably long enough to secure the lock into place so that no screw is needed right? Just as long as it fits snug enough in the hole...

What I would really like to do is figure out a way to spring load the hammer.

Nice! Where are you in NH? I'm in southern NH on the MA border as well.  In Plaistow.   This small town bummed fireworks but I haven been able to find anything on cannons...well see how that goes closer to the 4th!
