45-70 short case
« on: April 30, 2013, 03:34:15 PM »
For you Indiana guys who are using the 45-70 case length at 1.800" long. Would you tell the step by step procedure in making the cases? Are any special dies needed? My friend has a 444Marlin and was wondering if the same procedure might work with it. Thanks in advance.

Just trim and use your size die. If you crimp you will have to grind .300" off the bottom of the crimp die. The bottom serves no purpose so it doesn't have to be accurate. My 45-70 and 450 marlin crimp dies are trimmed for 1.625" cases and they work fine.

I saw a u-tube video showing a guy using a mini chop saw to  shorten cases. It looked to me like it would be an easy way to make a 45-70 short.
