I guess this proves a few things.
1) that throwing more and more money at the education system does not fix the problem
2) that we should have a standard test to vote
3) why the liberals are ellected. 60% of the country is too stupid to vote and they vote with emotion rather than facts and logic.

Shouldn't you replace taught with infected.  If liberalism is a desiese than they would need to be infected rather than taught.
When I was a kid I thought the government was a benevolent parent that would take care of those that could not take care ofthemselves and would help those that wanted help.  I then grew up and understood that working hard is a personal choice and that government should have nothing to do with my success or failure.
I remember when I was 7 or 8 my parents were getting things inline for the taxes and Dad asked Mom where the reciepts were for the house, I asked why did they need reciepts, Dad said so we can show the government what we spent our money on.  I then asked what business is it of the government how you spend your money and why do they care how you spend it.  My father just smiled and said they do nto what to know how we spend all of our money just the money on the house that I am going to take off of the taxes and then explained taxes as you would to a 7 year old and why dedustions were a good thing so as not to over pay and give away your hard earned $.

NOW---We can come to terms with intelligence.
Intelligence (IQ--if you must) has nothing to do with being smart--in the way smart should be understood.
Smart is understanding--NOT ability to memorize and repeat. Smart people understand how gears work and they can become good mechanics, machinest and engineers. An intelligent person can remember the answers but may not be able to correlate the answers with any ability to apply the learning.
I barely mad it out of high school---because I was not smart enough to study. It was not something I could correlate in my brain. I grew up later and understood and graduated from college. I know that some of you here are mystifed of that fact  .
Test don't go very far in my way of thinking. Some folks just freeze up at the word being mentioned. I used to be that way until I understood that it was not a test for perfection but for my use, to give me information and help me to develope some skills I lacked.
I will never be a chemist or engineer, machinist hold a PHD in my mind. I am turned to other things.
I give a big WHOOP to these students for standing their ground.
BTW---I actually took some duplicate courses in school, because I wanted to understand better.

I sell a small item on line and receive many emails asking questions. Some about 20% or 30% I need a translator to understand what they are trying to ask.  A few I printed and had to get a second opinion. Some are down right funny, but sad.

I worked a couple of summers on a dude ranch where most of the staff were college kids on summer vacation. I was very surprised to find that what little I remembered from high school 40 years earlier was more than most of those college students had ever learned.

The Swiss do consiter it a mental disease . Liberal thinking will get you an "F" on your test scores
everytime . Libs consiter themselves societal rebels , but sometimes the excuse as being a rebel
is just another name for stupid !  And only conceals the fact that your a self destructive dumb a$$ .
With no direction in your life other than what you have been programmed to think or do .

I think it is not because of our intellegence but because of our arrogance. 
Since the 60's those same hippies that knew everything are the ones we have in charge now, they are the ones that know better.  They are the ones that think they gan change human nature, change physics, change economics and make what they think should work only tearing down the sound foundation and building a house of cards that all socialism is.

ANNA. Good post and all true. There should be a law against liberal teachers. A libby test would be easy. Questions?? Do you believe that honest, law abiding citizens should be disarmed?? Do you believe that homosexuality should be taught in our schools as just another lifestyle, instead of an abomination like the Bible tells us?? Do you believe that killing babies is an acceptable form of simple birth control, instead of murder??

Since I retired I have a lot of dealings with people every day.   I am totally surprised about lack of knowledge.  While in the lower 48 I will talk to people about Alaska.  Many think we are a foreign country.  Some think we are an Island.  Many think we all live in Igloos, and drive dog teams, really.

My friend in Florida runs a business where they make custom things out of Plastics and also make signs and graphics.  When he needs to hire a new employee, he will interview 30 to 40 people before he can find one that can follow written instructions.  He asks them to follow the instructions and place the letters in their correct location on a board to make up a sign.  It's the same test he gave his daughter 25 years ago when she was a fifth grader, and she passed.  Functional Illiterates, that is what they are called.  They are able to function in their daily routine, but are unable to read, write, or do math.  Or it's like they speak a second language, not English.  And I'm not speaking Spanish here either.  It's what we called Pidgon English when I was overseas, referring to how the locals spoke English. 

You would not believe the discrimination complaints my friend has to answer over the people he ends up hiring.  The people that end up apssing the test are usually white and mostly of Cuban descent.
