Hey what's everybody doing?
« on: June 10, 2013, 05:36:03 PM »
It's quiet on the board. My wife and I are unpacking boxes from the recent move and trying to found a place for it.After supper we have been driving in the country scouting for new traplines. The plan is to lay out 12 lines of 18 locations on each line. That way we can run 2 lines,48 hour check, for 7 to 10 days then move to a new lines.Keep rotating that way.It should give me 2 months worth of coyotes and coyote trapping. With the short number locations on these lines we can run water lines later in the morning and afternoon. With the drives we have taken we have found some water off the beaten path.I recently found a great location for mink that took watching 3 different mink hunt these spots before the light bulb went off.The counties are using stone from rock piles in fields to use as breakwaters on the roads though sloughs.I sat in my truck on 3 occasions and watched mink hunt these rocks, down close to the waters edge. That last mink finally said"Hey what about setting this as rock pocket sets or rock cubbies for mink".Maybe all those coon droppings on some of those rocks mean coon hunt down there too.See I'm catching on to this water trapping. My wife said she wants a "14 foot jon boat with a Go Devil Thingy on it" that's a direct quote. After that comment I did suggest a 8 horse Scavenger Backwater motor.

What am I doing? Well firstly it is 3 days per week at the cardiac rehab to get my aerobic health and my upper body back in shape. Just started weight lifting this week. 5 weeks in and 7 to go!!!
Also I planted a 1/4 acre garden (in addition to the home garden) at a Christian Center where we will dontate the produce through their 2 thrift stores. My 2-3 guys that were going to help have not showed yet so this will add some hours to the summer workload.
I am also getting a bunch of items ready to try and sell at the FTA this June. I bought 2,000 bamboo stakes and will bring 1800 over along with some stretchers, traps etc. I have a person willing to work with me if I cover his booth costs. Good deal for me as I will be busy every day at the FTA.

LOL,Bill --seems like you are headed in the right direction.
Why concentrate on those smelly old flea busses, when you can concentrate on those sweet smelling water rodents.

With the lower number of coon and rats here on my line. If it looks like I can do as well on coyotes as the few I sold at the Feb sale. I will definatly be setting way more iron for coyotes this fall than last. Still would rather skin 10 coon than 1 coyote, but it may well turn into a numbers thing for me. Especially if i can't find some coon somewhere I over looked last fall.

Mac , in my area the coon distemper has been going on for thirteen years.  Havent seen a coon pup for last two year, including this year so far.   Mink are down, coon are down, rats are down.   Lots of yotes , but have to trap them before Dec so they grade coat type.

Our yotes are not very good.  Ive only caught one yote  from WIthat was silky like a fox and  color characteristics of your western yotes.    The yotes i got  on the western border of ND and Montana were very nice.
