As a media trainer and issues manager who has been a spokesman for some very beleaguered industries on some very tough issues, I have to say I have never seem such a slam dunk victory in an interview. I may have to use that in future training sessions. Morgan's calm and collected approach, commitment to the message and reliance on cited fact made the anchor look such a fool, his producers clearly called for an early break. That truly was an excellent job and he took charge immediately by contesting the premise.
My only suggestion would be that in attacking that premise, I would not say the debate was "settled " with the Second Amendment rather that any discussion needs to begin with a recognition of the Second Amendment and the affirmations that it has had in various rulings by the Supreme Court. Further, whether they know the difference or not, the moment AK47 or M16 or automatic weapon is raised (and Morgan did this well in reframing the definition of "assault weapon ") there has to be an immediate shut down: "AK47s and M16s are automatic weapons and are banned from purchase by the general public already; that debate was had decades ago and resolved by the 1968 Gun Control Act. " Many people believe that AR15 etc are in fact fully automatic and it's important to make this differentiation. Morgan was especially strong in discussing magazine capacity and that is another area that many gun ignorant but not necessarily "anti gun " people just don't understand. His calm mastery of the facts will sway more gun ignorant people to our side than any of Ted Nugent 's antics or Wayne LaPierre's diatribes.
