Huntz, did this happen inside of his home?
My middle brother shot himself with a .444 Marlin Contender!
Sheriff`s department tried to say it was an accident. This happened inside of his home!
Knowing my brother as I did in regards to gun safety, I find it hard to accept that it was an accident. When they did their investigation, the 14" barrel Contender
was laying on his couch with the end of the barrel pointing out towards the front of the couch as though he had sat down after being shot and laid the pistol in that position before he collasped and fell to the floor! Now if it was an accident how did that Contender get on that couch? If he dropped it and it had discharged a .444 Marlin recoiling would have definitely left some evidence of this occurring! No evidence was found that this is what happened.I also sent the Contender to SSK Industries for them to check out the pistol for any evidence of the pistol showing any signs of external or internal damage to the pistol or the scope. SSK Industries did a very extensive examination of the Contender and scope and found no evidence of any damage to the pistol. In fact , they said the pistol was in excellent shape!
Now most Contenders manufactured in recent years have the cross block safety design, but even if they do not it is still pretty hard to accidently shoot yourself accidently with one, especially one with a 14 " barrel! Just the process of loading a round into the chamber, pulling the hammer to a cocked position and then getting the barrel in the perfect position to hit you should the pistol be dropped and actually hit the hammer to fire the pistol.
A lot of things have to really be in sync for one to accidently shooting themself!
Now if the pistol actually has a cross blocked safety, this probably could not occur unless the pistol is actually cocked and the trigger is tripped!!
Huntz,
Where and when did this happen?
