35 Rem Bullet
« on: March 08, 2004, 04:43:59 AM »
I have been using a 180 grain Hornady SSP bullet in my 12" 35 Rem. contender barrel.  I was also intrigued by the Nosler 180 grain Partition Handgun bullet.  The Partition bullets have a good reputation and I was wondering if anyone was using this bullet.  I want to use it mostly for black bear but also ocasionally deer.

Thanks for your insights.

The only bullet I ever use in this round whether in the TC or a lever rifle is a 200 grain round nose or a 200 grain hard cast LBT. They will do anything this round is capable of doing.

The SSP was designed to open at these 'lower than rifle' speeds.  Like Graybeard, I believe the Partition to be unnecessary expense.  You might try the Hornady 200gr RN (not Spire).  This bullet has so little bearing surface that it can exceed some 180gr bullets for nice expansion and  penetration.
