Group Stock Set Buy?

Probably a really stupid thought, but has there ever been a group stock buy?  I tried the google search and I saw a post from back in 2008 that looks like it went down that path but wasn't clear how it went.

Has anyone asked H&R how many units they would need to do a run of the Topper Deluxe Classic?  I know they require a minimum 250 units for special runs on complete firearms.  I'll admit I'm assuming they still have someone with the skill to produce those stocks.

Maybe a set of Royal Jacarunda lams in a straight set?

Like I said, probably a stupid thought.  Just wondering.

From my understanding you would most likely have to get an H&R dealer like Lipsey's or Davidson's or Talo to commit to the 250 or they won't bite.  The best bet would be to probably set up a poll with an exact description and have people vote interest or not.  If they are, you might get a dealer to consider it.  Companies don't want to stock finished firearms typically, but get them right out to a dealer.  ;)

Yeah, the new way of manufacturing is to have that contract locked up and the factory has 'em all sold when made. One set up, run the line and move on. They dont want to, or cant afford to be sitting on wishful thinkin' unsold inventory much anymore. It has been true for a longggg time, and is more so now that 'inventory can kill you'.

I contacted a talented stock maker last year asking them to make synthetic (fiberglass) forends that can be glass bedded. They wanted me to buy 200 of them and sell them here myself. They wouldn't come off of their "custom" price so I passed. I couldn't afford to buy 200 of them nor would I ever expect to get my money back when they were priced over $60. :o
