Remington R1 1911
« on: April 05, 2013, 12:21:05 PM »
Well folks, I just placed a Remington R1 1911 in lay-a-way.  It was only $125 more that a Turkish Regent.  This R1 is a blue steel.  The salesman sware's it is at least a whole level above the Turkish, Phillippeno 1911's.  It will be my very last attempt at finding a 1911 that is worth the money, for my needs at least.......self defense, rough country carry, house night stand gun.  Does anyone here feel strongly enough, to either encourage me or to try and talk me out of the Rem. R1.  This is not a casual request, it really is my last attempt and getting a 1911 for my sort list of guns to use for the rest of my shooting life.  Is there any better 1911, that is commonly available, that is better in the $650 price range, at todays prices?  Thanks.....

Well, I can't speak for one compared to other guns in its class, but my wife's R1S is one of the most reliably functioning and smooth 1911s I've dealt with. It takes any ammo I've thrown at it and keeps ticking, not one jam or misfeed.

I give it a thumbs up  ;D

For your duties of self-defense, rough country and night stand any reputable manufacturer of 1911's will provide you with a suitable firearm. The 1911 worked for the U.S. military doing exactly what you prescribe for 100 years now.  I have shot 1911 and hi-cap versions for years and think they do all things well. That said a purpose built 1911 would handle individual duties better but would most likely be over your budget of 650. My competition gun would not be the gun I would carry into rough country as tolerances are tighter and a little dirt can really mess it up.

My bone stock R1 is highly accurate.

Thank you all for the reports on your R1's....after my last experience with a new 1911....well I was feeling a little "gun" shy.

for my part I would buy the upgraded Remington with the beavertail grip safety. It makes practice much more comfortable and protects you from the twin lines you get from the standard grip safety digging into the web of your thumb.

My R-1 standard has been 100% since it has broken in. Have had no ammo problems. Feeds HP's well. Purchace some good aftermarket magazines as the stock ones , even though I have not had problems , seem a little cheap. Great pistol.

Thanks again to all who take the time to comment.  SharonAnne do you mean the R1 carry....that is really niffty....the price not doable.  As to mags. well my goal is to get two of all the major mag. sources and keep careful records.  That carry model calls to me....oh well needed some more ear plugs anyway.
