18.25" barrel. Want to add affordable rifle sights.
« on: April 03, 2013, 05:23:21 PM »
I know, I'd be just fine with a simple bead, but I want a set of rifle type sights. I see several people using Contender sights, is there a reason for this or will any set suffice? What kind of epoxy are you guys using for this sort of work? Any tips or recommendations would be great

I just got a set of metal Remington ones for $15 shipped on another forum.  Watch the general classifieds or ebay for remingtons for a decent price.  I'm mounting those on a little .410 I'm turning into a small stature slug gun.  I also just upgraded my handi-rifle .45-70 with a nicer set of TruGlo orange/green fiberoptic sights for about $40.

If you have a center finding scribe, that'd probably work best to mark even centers for both the front and rear sight.  If you don't have that, do your best to make sure that the front and rear are in the same plane.  I like to use a pencil to make marks, so it rubs right off.  Any 5 minute 10k plus epoxy will work fine.  If you have squeeze clamps, probably best to use a squeeze clamp on each one to hold it tight until the epoxy sets up.  If you have the center finding scribe you can mark the sight with it also, so you have marks to align to the center marks.  8)  Hope it helps some...
