Pachmayr grip question
« on: March 12, 2013, 01:50:48 PM »
I will like to start off by saying I am prob the youngest member in the contender group only being 24 years of age and so far this forum looks awesome!. I got my first contender (gen 1) a few months ago and love it so far. I got it with a 14 inch 17hmr barrel mainly because that was the only ammo I could find at the time and whats the fun in buying a new gun and not being able to shoot it?

Now for the grip question. I'm not too crazy about the stockers. The hand grip just doesn't have that great of feel in my hand. Im looking at a set of Pachmayr decelerator grips as I like the looks and I can see the benefit of the finger grooves to keep your hand in the same position. My main question is on the forearm. Does it fit all barrels from 10 inch to 14 inch? Does point of aim change on this setup if you shoot off of bags then shoot it off hand? I heard that was a problem with the stock setup.

I plan to use this pistol as a rang gun where I will be shooting off of sand bag as well as shooting hunter pistol sillywet  :D . I do plan on getting a 10 inch 357 max barrel to hunt with and that will be the max recoil barrel Ill have for the time being. I will plan on getting a 32-20 for hunter/field pistol shoots. Just to give you a back ground on my purpose of the pistol.

sorry if these questions has been asked. The search bar would not allow me to search saying I did not have permission too.   >:(

For my 10 inch Contender barrel, the fore arm is short with one screw hole, the fore arm for the 14 inch barrel is longer and has 2 screw holes

The original pachy forend that attaches with a hanger bar is made to screw to the one tophat on a 10 inch and to both on the 14.  It will work with both barrels.  I don't recall which way it goes on the barrel but you will see when you put it on.  The new ones don't use a hanger bar and I don't know if it will work on a 10 inch.

Hmm so unless I get an older forearm I am pretty much out of luck for my needs it sounds like. The whole idea behind the forearm was to get it free floated with the hanger bar system but if the new style does not have this feature for the contender, then I will have to look at some other options. I was hoping I could get one forearm that would fit all barrel sizes.

Look around and you can easily find a used original pachy forend.

Well I just won a used set off of ebay with the hanger bar for $65. I dont know if I over paid but I figured it was cheap enough to take a gamble.

Nope, I paid $55 for just the grips.
