Jason: the 311440 is a fairly blunt nose bullet with two grease grooves and a crimp groove. The overall case length for the 30/30 round is 2.550". The 311440 may be loaded a bit less than that if necessary to get the cartridge to cycle, but I don't think so; I think that slug was probably designed for the 30/30 and the crimp groove is situated for proper crimping and cycling the action.
Accuracy loadings for that bullet in the 30/30 case use 4756 powder (11.1 gns) for around 1,500'/sec; or Herco powder (9 gns) for about 1,300'/sec.
This is a gas checked bullet which should help reduce leading and give good accuracy. Good luck and let us know how it goes...
