This forum is the most active of any gun/manufacturer forum I've visited.  We have more posts in a day than some have in months.  If someone shows up on another forum with a Handi problem, he invariably is directed here.  If you browse the Ruger, Savage, CVA, etc., forums you'll see they all have questions on how to remedy problems with those firearms.  The far greater volume here gives the IMPRESSION there are more problems with Handis.  This is not in fact a reality.  I would estimate that at least 95% of the "problems" brought here are a simple fix and are caused by pilot error......greasy latch shelf, too clean barrel, wrong load for twist, etc. etc.

The bottom line is, if you hang around here a while, you'll see many targets, by many shooters of all the Handi calibers with one hole or sub-MOA groups.  You can't expect more from any rifle.....regardless of what you pay.

Sheite: Now you have gone and done it. I was pretty happy with my 30-30 and 357maggie and ya'll got to talkin' about .223's. and with me sitting on about 500 mil-surp lake city .223's (and OF COURSE no Handie to shoot them in) :-[ :'( . I do have a CZ 527 .223 to shoot them in, BUT now I want to have a Handi to shoot them with. Jeez, people, now I have to budget on my wants while I'm on S.S.  THanks, you guys are really putting me in a dilemma. God Bless to all and theirs.

            Goofy :o

P.S. and here I thought that 2 Handi's would keep me happy :-[ .

My brother in-law thinks I am crazy for having bought an H&R. He condemns them as a "cheap, off brand", he doesn't think single-shot's in any format are viable hunting guns (he's one of those "spray and pray" type hunters), and though he hasn't actually come out and said  it, I think he just thinks they are boring(his ideal gun is an big name AR that costs more than my car).  Me, I think they are simple to the point of elegance, which beats out flashy any day, in my book at least.
Also, H&R doesn't  advertise like the  the other manufacturers. I have spoken to a couple of people who have never even heard of them, and because they hadn't heard about them, immediately dismissed them as inferior. The "logic"(using the term very loosely  being, that if an H&R was any good, you would see ads for them all over the place, like the ones that take up some 3/4 of the pages of most of the well big sporting magazines(not going to name names, but you all know which ones I mean). You cant flip two pages without seeing ads for Remington, Winchestor, Savage, Mossberg, T/C, etc. Heck even Rossi puts more into advertising than H&R. they really don't get the press they deserve.

I'm also a member of a 'modern sporting rifle' type of forum. They have a long running thread on H&R shortie shotguns and how to set them up for self defense/trunk/BOB/AntiZombie weapons. They're taking to them like ducks to water. They're now cruising all the pawn shops for them and ordering the new AAC .300 BLK when they make the special runs of them. So, from what I'm seeing, people are taking to them when they see what can be done with them.

"Off brand"?? H&R was one of the earlier gun companies!

His term, not mine. I think what he meant was that they are not a very well known, or widely recognized brand. They could really use a good ad campaign. It would be a start towards getting them the recognition they deserve.

It is mostly snobs, elitists, and those who don't know anything about guns will downtalk the Handi's.

I've never had any function or accuracy problems with any of my Handi rifles or shotguns at all.  I'd sooner own a Handi than any other gun.  I'll walk right back out of a gunshop if I don't see anything even remotely resembling a Handi on the wall as soon as I walk in.
