Rem. 700 ADL to BDL?
« on: February 21, 2004, 02:09:30 PM »
This has probably been covered several times, but I am not finding it. From what I understand the ADL and BDL is the same action with only different hardware\floorplate etc, correct? The reason I ask is that I found a very good deal on a BDL stock and I am considering picking it up for my action if I can find a conversion kit cheap enough. Do I only need the trigger gaurd?  I looked on Brownells and it looks like the want quite a bit for the kit, probably more then would make it worth my wild. Any suggestions where I might find something that would allow me to do this for around $60.00, or am I just dreaming?

Thanks PD

The hinged floor plate and magazine kit are pretty expensive. The Remington factory kit is over $120. There are some other after market kits out there but they are usually made of steel and cost even more.

If you can do without the hinged floorplate, the BDL stock will fit the ADL just fine. You can make a metal panel that will cover the hole and will be held in place by the front trigger assy screw and the front lug screw. The ADL trigger guard will fit just fine. I've done a few this way and they turned out pretty decent. Of course you loose the hinged unloading feature.

Thanks GLB
I found the floor plate assy. through Midway for $78.00. That price is tempting enough for me to consider if all I need is the plate assy. with no other hardware. Will the box and spring from my ADL work for the BDL?

I went a little different direction in restocking my ADL.  A custom gunsmith was selling new 700 stocks at a gun show.  He was selling take-offs from new rifles that were going to be customized.  I got a new Mountain Rifle stock and installed int on my ADL.  I was able to pickup a nice piece of wood in the process.  I like the Mt. Rifle stock because in is not high gloss.  Another plus was that it came with a factory recoil pad.

I should note that this did not require additional items.  I did glass it.

You need the BDL magazine if you use the floorplate. The follower and spring are the same. Make sure you get the trigger guard and floorplate assembly, not just the floorplate.
