Naval Carriage Rocking?

I know many of you have built naval carriages and can use some advice. Sometimes the stars and planets don't always a line  themselves and my carriage ends up having a bit of a rock in it. To fix this I been putting shims above an axel under the cheek. Is there another way to fix this? Thanks and heres a pic of the rocker.

I have built over 50 naval carriages and used to experience the same problem.
Now I oversize all side to side holes a little bit.  That extra slop keeps the side cheeks from twisting.

Thanks Zulu. That's great advise. Ill try it on the 1/4 scale 304ss 1841 I'm working on that will be on a naval carriage. I took you full scale and divided it by 4 to get my length and height. I could probably use some more info on your full scale like axel diameter and the wheel diameters. Wishful thinkng probably. Thank you

ZULU. IT WORKED!  Doesn't rock at all. Thank you. 17" long 2.5" diameter .75 caliber. This thing got the weight it needs to stay grounded when used for firing balls.

Docholidaiy: what a looker you got there, I think I will try to duplicate you excelent finish on my next build. Having worked with brass for a long time its good to switch over to a more silver looking finish..
How is stainless to work with..? Hard on cutting tools..? Any tooling tips are apriciated..

You build a very nice looking cannon, now do one and paint it up like they are supposed to be and that will be a really good looking cannon. 

You need to do a least one that way to see what I am talking about.

Thank you all. I know there's some things that need improved on and I'm pretty slow to evolve but it's coming.  I would like some advice on a paint color and one readily available in stores that would look good on a carriage like this. Thanks again

For a Lord Nelson and HMS Victory style use  Yellow Ochre for carriage paint the  Barrel and hardware black,

Here is my  SAMCC gun done up in in a Bronze barrel in Nelson colors.



Different countries used different colors. Red was used as was black.

For many year I had my 1841  Cairo gun done up like this.



I did not know what the proper color was.

A few year back I learned the color of the original carriage was black so I did a refurb and this is what it looks like now.



Makes a big difference.
