405 is done
« on: April 17, 2013, 05:58:46 PM »
Got a call from Wayne York monday saying my new 405 Winchester is done and ready to ship.
Should be here next week.
Can't wait to get it all back together and try it out.
Should make for a pretty good deer gun if it shoots as good as my 1885 Winchester Highwall.
I think that pretty much rounds out my collection of the BIG BORES in H&Rs.

Keep us posted on how it goes Frank.  That's one I'm not very familiar with.  Who knows, you may have started another itch I've just got to scratch ::)   Good luck with it.

You'll love it, mine shoots excellent with max loads of Benchmark and either 300gr Hornady SP or resized 300gr Hawk .416"s.  ;)

Groo here
As you can use 44 pistol bullets in a 444, a 405 will shoot 41 bullets [cast]...

Groo here
Where did you get barrel ?
 Who did job?
 How long?
 How much?
 How does it shoot?
 How does it kick?
 Send Email...
PS.  Try Penn bullets 295gr hard cast for 41mag..
This is the SSK design [I have a mold ]  And I would like one with a 17 to 20 in barrel and both sights...

That's kinda purty.  Nice caliber right between 35 & 45.  Something unique.  Nice.

I'm really not sure on this one.
I have a 405 in a 28" Winchester Highwall that isn't that bad.
About like a 45-70 pushing around 2100fps in my opinion.
I am hoping the stock design and the recoil pad will help tame it some.
I also have one in a 24" Encore that hits pretty hard.
Never really cared for the way an Encore stock fit me.
There is something about a Handi rifle that really soaks up the kick of a heavy caliber.
So far the only real kicker I have had in a H&R is the 450 Marlin and that doesn't feel as bad as a 45-70 in and Encore to me.

The barrel is a standard 28" H&R 38-55 Target Classic
Wayne York from Oregunsmithing LLC did the rebore and chamber work.
He is the person who did my 50-140 along with one for Tim (quickdtoo) and Richard (ATLaw) back last year.
He does great work.
Turn around has been about 2 months.
Cost was $355.00 including shipping.
Don't have it back yet so shooting will have to wait.
Same goes for the kick.
Don't really think it will be that bad.

I will post results once I get it up and running.
