  I am surprised they let the perp off, it seem that failure to arrest for 2 lbs possession would be a form of "dereliction of duty"..  Cops should not be allowed to circumvent the law as written, at least not in such an egregious manner.

When I grew up such discretion was the rule.

The death of that discretion is what is giving law enforcement a bad name.
I have spoken to police officers who said, they would often act differently but they have no choice if they want to keep their jobs.

I am glad those boys acted, and could act, with discretion and not hoop-jumping out of fear.

  Legal maximum is 8 oz.and that is with a medical exception.  "Disretion" would be up to 12 oz.  Quite likely, 2 pounds indicates somebody is a salesman..distributor.
