long scope/short barrel

I want to temporarily mount a scope on a 22 pistol to test ammo, but the only extra one I have is a 15x riflescope.  If I put this scope on my gun, the objective bell will hang out past the muzzle.  Will this damage the scope in any way?

It certainly shouldn't with a .22, but I wouldn't try it with a .44 mag.  If you have any worries, just put some tape on the underside of your scope.

I have a 6-24x44 on my cotender.  It sticks out about 1 inch byond the muzzle.  I get slight discolor on the bell from the muzzle blast.  I put the shade on to make sure that the lens is protected but it probably is not needed.

You can only hit the target if the barrel is pointed in the right direction when the bullet leaves the barrel.

Shooting that handgun with a short eye relief should be a thrill. I can see a back eye coming if the 22 has a non-enclosed bolt or slide. Also the 15X magnification will be very difficult to manage.

Iowegan,

Actually it is something that is done much more than you may think.   Silhouette shooters do it all the time, using the "Taco Hold".  That is why The 22 Hornet and the 32-20 are so popular, because they don't have enough recoil to push the scope back into your eye.  I have used this hold with light loads with a 357 mag barrel on my contender and never got a shiner.

This is a really steady hold and it easy to shoot accurately with it.
