A call or email from anyone matters.  This vote was to debate the various bills only and there are many.

In a word- no. This post is misleading. The vote that passed was to get the bill out of committee and it will now be considered by the Senate. Nothing has passed and the Republicans who voted for this just said, yes, let's debate this in the open Senate.

It would have been better for the democrats it the republicans had killed it. Then they could have ignored it next election. Or claim the republicans were the ones who would not act. Of course it would depend on what state they represents as to how they would use it. Now they must take a stand for all to see.

I'm all over the 3 senators in my state and 2 adjoining states, i'm also texting these numbers to a bunch of buddies demanding they call too. They surely will. Heard on Rush today that these turncoats agreed to this open debate on a series of evenings on a dem owned luxury vessel where they were wined and dined. These guys gotta go.  J

I am totally ashamed of the Arizona Senators and on Monday each shall receive a phone call in which I will express my anger and shame at the way they have voted. I will remind them of their oath of office in which they swear to support and defend the Constitution, all of it, not just the parts they like.

I will also remind them that should they in any way support restrictions on the Second Amendment I will campaign strongly and loudly for their opponents.

They are our servants, not our masters.

Rep. Pat Toomey (Pa.) was once ranked as the fourth most conservative Senator by National Journal. So here he is involved in talks with communists about background checks. The truth is he is not a conservative, but a political survivor. In 2016 he knows he needs votes from Philadelphia suburbs where voters are most likely to support more gun restrictions. We have no servants anymore the whole lyin pack of them are nothing but political whores.

I think it was Toomey on one of the Sunday shows that said 90% of Americans support his 26 page bill and if all of the Senators read it with an open mind they would also support it. If the Senators haven't had a chance to read it how can most Americans know what is in it,let alone support it? I know it won't happen, but I sure would like to see the people that throw out all these statistics like 90% favor background checks, 40% of guns sold are done without checks, etc. be forced to reveal how they came up with all these bogus numbers.

I guess they throw out these numbers to get public support, because they can assume that a large part of that public doesn't know the difference between a lie and the truth. Its just like when Obama said the majority of Americans are in favor of his new gun laws.

I left a phone message thanking AZ Senator Flake for voting Pro Second Amendment and encouraged him to continue to support the Second Amendment in the future.

Don't bother to phone the traitor AZ Senator McCain. His phone box was full at 9 am edt. I did send him an email in which I expressed my feelings about him voting against the Second Amendment. I reminded him he swore to support and defend the Constitution as a Naval officer and a Senator and he has violated each oath.

I said I hope he plans to retire because if he runs again I will be one of many who will campaign against him with my mouth, e-mail, time and money to defeat him.

Further I stated he is a shame to Arizona, the Navy and all who support the Constitution.

I despise him.

I always thought that Toomey was one of the good ones. I guess things change when he figured he would need votes from the democratic strongholds in Pittsburgh and Philly in 2016.

I am registered Republican, but that don't mean squat to me any more. I'm sick and tired of the republicans crap anymore. Guys like Toomey start out as apparent conservatives, then become corrupt within the corrupt system. I'm pretty disgusted with the whole stinking pack of them. And no Toomey will not get my vote again.
I do think that conservative politicians getting elected are becoming a thing of the past. This is based on my view of the number of ignorant voters anymore, and the fact that to many people want government to care for them and keep them safe. The Republic is dying, and many just plain don't care.

supporting the tea party   seems to  get enough voters  to vote ''en block''

and  remove the established  ''liberal republicans''

we had a liberal /popular  governor  run  for senate  here in florida
as  governor he supported the teachers union
HE GOT STOMPED IN THE SENATE PRIMARIES  BY  RUBIO

the governor now works for a schyster law firm  advertising on  TV  now

We have had background checks in Pa. for years. I don't know what all the paranoia is about. I have gone through several. It takes less than 5 min.for the phone call and is painless. I know of several criminals who have been arrested because they tried to purchase a handgun . The salesman in the store tells them- sorry it is taking so long, must be some problem with the phones. In the mean time they called the police and the criminal was apprehended. If it saves just one life , it's worth it. An example is, you can not purchase a firearm if you have an active PFA. As I said no one in Pa. that I know of has a problem with having it done.

 Paranoia Really?

Background checks, are everywhere right now!

Look the reason law abiding people don't like bad law is that we  abide by and follow those laws, CROOKS Don't!  Its against the law to blow people up! That didn't stop the Boston Bombing.

You think that wacko that in Connecticut thought about breaking the law!

People that think this is about  safety are fools! Nowhere that is gun free is safe. Its just a free fire zone! Ask the people in Australia that gave up their guns! The big crime there is home invasion, Bad guys know where to go!

First, try to understand what you are writing about.  We are not talking about the background checks that you go through when purchasing from an FFL (I believe all the states have that), but rather having to go through a background check when entering into a private party transaction.  Such as purchasing a firearm from a relative, friend, etc.  Are you set up to do background checks?  If not, then you wouldn't be able to transfer a firearm to your son/daughter.  Does this not bother you?  As far as the "if this saves one life" bull, well if they outlawed all guns, I bet that would save at least one life.  So, are you willing to just trash the 2nd Amendment and go with that type thinking.    ::)

I see the hackers are back- hope it gets through this time. There seems to be confusion as to which background checks are already law as Casull says and which background checks are proposed. Can someone clarify which is which ?

Here is what I think is a good article on the subject from the GOA website. The fact is we have plenty of gun laws on the books. Is one more "look we are doing something" gun law going to make any difference? Or one more gun law that is written by politicians looking out for their best interests. We have one law on the books that should rid us of all other gun laws, and that is, its illegal to murder someone. If ones intent is to murder. Really, will any stack of gun laws make any difference? Society will never be saved by any amount of government laws, and mandates. Its the heart of society that needs to change to make a difference.
