got synthetic in the transfer case and transmition. It seems to shift real smoothly. I dont know if its just my imagination or not but it seems smoother. One more question for you though. I use that lubeguard additive you recomended in the tranny. I see they make it for automatic transmitions too. Im about to change the filter out on my 06 silverado. It takes a dextron VI transmtion oil. Is that additive going to be safe in that tranny and do you think its worthwhile in a auto transmition

Is it safe- yes. Would I use it- no. An automatic is a different application and everything that the transmission needs is in the Dextron spec. As long as you change it on time, there's no need for any additives.

That's going to be an iffy thing. The truck is 7 years old with 70,000 miles on the clock. There's going to be some varnish build up that a new fluid is going to dissolve. How much, I don't know but if it's a lot, yer gonna have seal leaks. You can give it a try and if no leaks, you lucked out.

You are looking for Dextron 6 in that truck. It's backward compatible with your truck. The original formulators and factory blenders of real Dextron 6 would be Mobil, Chevron, Kendall, Conoco-Phillips, and Havoline. I suggest using those brands only. While I believe the original ATF spec for that truck was Dextron III, you might find a high mileage ATF Dextron III but none of the original formulators makes one. Castrol I think and Valvoline are about the only two that make one.

It's an iffy kinda thing changing it so it's yer decision to throw the dice. I wish I could give you better advice.
