federal 20 gauge power shok sabot ?
« on: June 19, 2012, 11:53:48 PM »
Anybody used them on deer or other game ? If so, what kind of performance did you get ? I tried them at the range and they shot really well for a cheaper sabot slug, i have never shot any deer with them yet though.

Thanks deer slayer, yea, thats what i thought, i really like the way these things shoot in my 11-87 slug gun, and the low cost that they are compared with with other sabot  slugs !

I too have a good deal of respect for the 20 gauge slug, I have killed many deer with the 20 gauge buckhammer, but since they are no longer being made, I think I am going with the federal power shok sabots this year ! What about the rottweil laser sabots, has anyone heard of these ?

Great slugs as well. Slugsarus.com is about to get them in stock. They used to be under the name "Hastings Laser Accurate Sabot Slug". I would probably get these over the federal.

They have a better reputation from my knowledge. They are VERY flat shooting and hit VERY hard. Accuracy reports were very good, it worked well in alot of different guns. Comes in 2 3/4" and 3". Just my take on it.

Currently,  they are the only ones to my knowledge.  They are an imported slug, so there wont be a whole lot of places to buy.

I ordered a couple boxs of the laser plus slugs the other day, and i went to the range, they shot awsome, one big ragged hole in the target at 75 yards. I hope these slugs stay around longer than the buckhammers did !

where ya'll getting the idea that Remington is/has stoped making the buck hammer slugs.
They still listthem on their web site as of today.
http://www.remington.com/products/ammunition/shotshells/slugs/buckhammer-lead-slugs.aspx

My gun shop ran out of them in the fall of 2011, But had shelves full of them this spring. I had heard the ugly rumor before that Remington had/is going to stop making them. I asked the owner and he said that word had gotten out what a great slug the3y werefor the price and he had sold out all he had ordered in 2011 by Oct. He said the new order took a bit of time getting to him  but he had learned his lesson on them and has doubled his order for 2012.
I'm sure Remington would remove a product no longer produced ASAP to avoid confustion.

Shot the 20 gauge 2 3/4" Powershocks and got a sub 2" group at 100yds. Looks like its my new 20 gauge load...

Also tried the Federal Fusions (20 ga, 2 3/4") and got a 7" inch group, so they are not for me.

Shooting the 20ga Federal Power Shok sabot slugs for 2 years now out of 2 guts - 20ga hvy rifled barrel rossi single, and a H&R USH compact (hvy barrel, 22").
The performace in the Rossi is "OK"  2" groups at 50 yds, 4" at 100 yds.
In the USH it is spotty, typ at 50yds I get 2 tight holes and 3 "stringing up, in no paticular order, so my 5 shot group is about 4" at 50yds (height wise). at 100 in the USH about a 5" group 4-5" low.
Tried the Rem Accu Tip in the same session, 1.5" groups at 50 yds, 2.5" at 100yds about 1" low.
So I am saving them for my "youths" who are shooting the Rossi under ~60 yds.

Bought 4 boxes of the 2 3/4 Powershok sabots yesterday. I still have a stock of Buckhammers but am open to trying the PowerShoks. They look good with their big hollow point and if they shoot good everything will be rosy. My slug gun is a USH, the older heavy model but it is a fine shooter. The gun is topped with an old Weaver 3x with a post reticle and though I like it a lot I havent used it much.

I just did the same.... Just bought a Savage 220 and was hoping the less expensive sabots work before I dive into the pricer ones

Greetings, how would you like to try some of my Non Discarding Sabots for pennies per load like this:

Cutting those wads is a pain but I do it easy:

The bullet is a Lee .575-285 RB on right and Lee .575-440 Real next to that and the first one on left is a Lee .575-472M.

Hoping it helps.

Pretty neat, how fast can you push a round ball from a 20 gauge?

Greetings, I'm not selling any thing just love what I do and share my loads with my slug shooter's family, my style is show through pictures and tell the story.

I do my slug / Sabot testing full time and love what I do, God is great and has helped me to this point that I can share my load secrets, if every one would share and tell, we all would be rich with knowledge and enjoy the benefits of sharing!

You can buy all the components and load your own, don't need me.
I have modified the load a bit so use 3-.125-28 nitro cards in wad below the RB and 6 point fold crimp, not roll crimp as it will mangle the wad petals!

Aim for heavy bones with a RB load for a clean harvest, it plows like a bulldozer!

Have fun at the range and post some pictures, so we all could be part of your experience.

Best regards,
Ajay
