On Friday I picked up a brand new Winchester Model 94 Sporter in 38-55
This rifle is a thing of Beauty! The Japan Winchester folks really turn out a nicely finished product.
Yesterday I took it to the range to fire for function with it's supplied barrel sights. Performance was outstanding at 25 yards. But I plan on using it for side matches at Cowboy Action Shoots. So the sights needed improvement.
In my junk drawer I had some unknown brand tang sight that wiggled and wobbled and the base wouldn't fit the Winchester.
So out to the shop and my milling machine carved a new base from a block of steel. The sides of the sight was trues and stainless steel washers were fitted ti tighten it up.
I designed the base to keep the tang safety accessible.
The rear barrel sight was replaced with a "flip down" type.
Back to the junk drawer for an old Lyman #17 front sight
And at 50 yards...The proof is in the pudding....
Using a "Period Correct" benchrest and no rear bag.....
250g Lyman cast bullet, 20-1 Alloy, SPG Lube, 9g Unique, CCI Lg Rifle Primer
Oh, and BTW....My Patriots just lost to the freak'n Seahawks?
