percussion hammers broken...what does it?

Looking at a batch of T/C Senecas I see several with missing hammers.
I'm assuming DROPPING the rifle is what broke them?? I'm hoping just normal use doesn't break one because the few that are found are very expensive. I believe this particular batch of rifles were used in hunter training class which would explain them being dropped.

has to be.
i've never seen a sidelock of any
make with a broken hammer.
i don't guess the nipples are peened
over too? i might imagine repeated
dry firing might stress the hammer
without the cushioning effect of the
cap busting off, but that's just a swag.
your guess seems the most likely.

also, is it the hammers that are broken/missin' or is it the tumblers sheared off(the square shank the hammer goes on)?

I thought I saw a broken hammer  but I may have assumed they had broken. The tumbler is still here on my second gun (I bought two-one complete and one needing a hammer). I'm going to go back to check out the others again. One had a stock for end piece missing (about 1/2" x 3"), and a couple others just had dinged from use stocks missing a thimble or maybe had a 1/4" stock dent or gouge (wood missing). The store owner was in a meeting and I was not able to haggle for 'parts gun' pricing on the rest of the Senecas. I'll try to check again today. What parts are you guys needing? These little Senecas would make good project and/or parts guns. I'm going to buy the $35 hammer I located and make this second Seneca a complete gun.

The Seneca rifles were probably cannibalized. I have had to replace many rusted hammers. The primer cup goes away.
All parts are getting valuable as the supply is essentially zero.

I found and purchased a new Cherokee/Seneca hammer yesterday for $30. They had another, and I might have to go get it, too. I've found a small gaggle of Seneca 45s that were used by the DNR for 'something'.
A few scratched and dented stocks, missing thimbles, hammers. It would be nice to buy the whole bunch to make up what whole rifles I could. Even a rusted bore/barrel still has a thimble or two, barrel lug, etc.
