Can I sue the DNR for this?

 Deer came running wide open from my left side while I was going 45 to 50 mph. No time to take any sort of evasive action. If it wasn't for the helmet and leather.... :'(

you need to save that helmet for
folks that make fun of a full face
helmet user.


i follow the "i'd rather sweat than
bleed" school myself.


that'd be some vastly different photos
if wearing a tank top, shorts, and
flip-flops like some i see.

Glad to see you were able to walk away from it.  Been riding for a long time, and the biggest thing I have hit is a coon.  That was scary enough.  It has gotten so that I do not even ride at night here in central PA anymore - To many deer standing along side the road, waiting to commit suicide, and take the rider with them..

The deer was running wide open from left to right and the impact slapped the bike and I down hard on our left sides. Without a helmet I suspect that would have been all she wrote. Certainly would have lost a lot of the left side of my face and chin. The jacket had several rubbed through spots as well as burn marks from the exhaust pipes.
To put this all in perspective.....I'm 65 years old and have always had a bike since the age of 15.....50 years of riding minus the two years in the Army. I had just installed a new battery in the bike and this was going to be one of those "Quick trip around the block" rides. The trip meter shows 2 miles for calendar 2013. This happened 2 miles from home. I wish I'd have thought of gloves. Then I'd at least be able to shoot a 1911 during the healing process.

good gloves with full fingers are
mandatory for me. i've been riding too
many times and gravel or something flies
up from a car in front, or a bee, or something
hits me in the knuckles or hand. can't use your
hands, can't get home.

Aww come on, my hands always look like that after I wrench on a motorcycle or truck!  just kidding! you are lucky! I get a laugh when I see youngsters riding crotch rockets at high speeds on the freeway in t shirts and cut offs! You can tell they have never had road rash!
 
Glad you only had dinged up hands and a few scrapes! As to sueing DNR you may get arrested for taking game illegally! Did the deer walk away?

Yup, deer got up and walked away but she wasn't walking very good. She took a full broadside hit and I'm thinking there would have to be some internal damage.
 Most of us probably know someone that rides without safety gear so feel free to share these pics if you want. Maybe some good can come of this.

Ouch!
 
A friend of mine sideswiped a small doe with his Cannon last year. There was a dent in the gas tank and some hair in the frame. Very lucky

 Progressive insurance totaled the bike out. They gave me a decent settlement, covered the helmet and jacket and even paid for the aftermarket Muzzy exhaust system. Even Flo looks a little more attractive in the commercials now... ;D
 My hands are healing up and I'm hobbling around much better on beat up left leg but don't know if another machine is in the future...especially not another hot rod. After 50 years of riding I just may have had enough.
 I've been thinking a new 1911 might ease some of the "pain and suffering" but every model that appeals to me is "currently out of stock".... ::)

 The accident took place at 4:30 in the afternoon about 5 miles north of Green Bay. I have absolutely NO interest in riding at night anymore. The resident living nearby told the responding officer that they saw the deer running wide open through their yard and then they heard the commotion out front.....

You can put deer whistles on . I used to use them but stopped when they fell off after hitting a deer.  ??? :-\  Glad you are ok. I went to GB. last night to buy a car 5 mi. west of GB. There were a lot of dead deer on the road. Fawning time i guess.
