BBF, I am sorry but I disagree with some of your comments. I have strong family and work ties to Canada. Back in the 1980's small caliber handguns were outlawed. Family members brought their guns across the border and gave them to family members in the US. Since that time many other types of guns and some types of ammo have become severely restricted and regulated in Canada.
Here in the US we do have a right to keep and bear arms (as you acknowledge) and we do have a constitution. I regularly wear a handgun in McDonald's, Kroger grocery stores, etc. etc. and it raises no eyebrows whatsoever. And it's entirely legal and protected by law, exactly as intended and provided in our Constitution.
Canadians are subjects, not citizens. I readily acknowledge that President Obama would prefer that we change that here and become like Canada. I also readily acknowledge that absent the NRA we would have gun control similar to what is found in Canada despite our Constitution.
Canadians never stood up to their government the way the US Founding Fathers did, and there is not very much evidence that will ever happen. But it's funny how history proceeds; if not for the United States intervention in WWII there would undoubtedly be a Nazi flag flying in Ottawa and your email would be in German!
My speculation is that if Canadians in the 21st Century find courage that Canadians clearly did not have in the 19th and 20th Centuries many Americans would support those efforts. America would benefit from having free, strong citizens to the north.
