Good scope base
« on: May 23, 2013, 04:59:21 AM »
Has anyone here tried the Keylock Magnum scope base and rings that EABCO sells, or have any suggestions on a decent scope base? I plan on using Warn quick disconnect rings or the Leupold PRW rings for a .30-06 barrel.

I have standardized on the weaver base with Burris Signature rings for the Encore & Contenders. However on one barrel, the 30/06 Encore with sights I have a Leupold base with Leupold quick detach rings since I might want to use the sights or scope and not have to worry about the scope returning to zero. Works great.

I prefer Leupold Dual Dovetail.

I tried Leupold QD rings on an Encore 375 H&H Magnum barrel and they shot loose.

I currently use Warne steel bases on all my Encore and Contender rifle barrels and use Warne QD rings.  I'm thus able to switch scopes easily between barrels.  I've used Warne QD rings with success with cartridges up to 300 Winchester Magnum.  I also tried them on a 378 Weatherby Magnum but went to permanent Warne rings on that because after reattaching the scope the first couple of shots would be off.

Tried them all over the years.   My first choices... on the "cannon" barrels, custom steel 6 screw bases or T'SOB with 3 or 4 standard rings... on the rest Burris or Leupold windage bases and their standard rings.   Standard rings because I preferred to lap all of my rings myself.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

I have the Redfield 3-ring system and I have had no problems...

But, you must be sure the 'scope you get will allow the 2 rings that are in front of the adjustment screws to fit...

Good-luck...BCB

My prefence is a Weaver base or weaver style combined with Weaver Quad Lock rings.  I've ran this setup on several guns including a 7BR, 308 Win, 30-06 JDJ, 7Mag, 280 Ackley Imp., 284 Win and now a 30-338WM with absolutely zero problems.
