scope base question

Hey y'all, I just got word from the guy that's supposed to be threading the barrel of my SB2 .308. He can't get the scope mount off, says the 2 screws that did come out were very tight, and the third has broke one Allen wrench and bent 2 more. I bought this gun used and don't know how it was installed, factory or someone with some sort of lock tight. What would be a good course of action?? I'm thinking some heat and maybe an impact driver?? Have a 1.5-6x42 30mm Tasco Titan mounted in a DNZ one piece mount on my Howa 308 and am planing to use a DNZ on this Handi and just bought another identical scope to top this with. So saving the factory mount is not a real concern.

Anyone with any experience with something like this would use a hot air gun to warm it up to melt the the thread locking compound.   If that doesn't work, cut off an allen wrench so it's just a straight bit, put it in the screw and give it about a dozen light taps with a hammer to vibrate the screw loose.  Then it should come out OK...

Yeah he said he tried heat and an impact driver (thats the bit he broke) He sending it back, Pop will fix it

I've used that method to remove stuck screws from guns, cars, motorcycles and even lawnmowers.  It works...  I gave up on impact drivers after I found out that pounding in bit into the screw works better.  It loosens the screw before it's turn rather than trying to turn it when it's still stuck...

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM STRIPED OUT THE HEAD SO I DRILLED THE HEAD OF THE SCREW OUT THEN REMOVED BASE THEN HEATED THE REMAINING SCREW WITH A SOLDERING  GUN AND THEN TOOK VICE GRIPS AND TURNED THE SCREW OUT WORKED FOR ME TAKE YOUR TIME.

Use a propane torch to heat up the screw, just don't overdo it.

There is no way that I would let a guy that can't get a screw out, cut and thread my barrel. JMO.

Okay got barrel back, 2 front screws came loose with a snap  , 3rd just flexed my Allen wrench. Torch for a few seconds, short hex bit tapped 2-3 times, repeat, torch again (for good measure) I shut the torch off and set it down, when I turned back to the barrel the screw had come out by itself 
LOL Not really but it offered NO resistance and came right out. I have only heard good reviews about this guy’s work, and I had already paid him so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and sent it back. I appreciate that he, unsure of damaging my barrel, didn’t do anything rash like drilling or dremeling.

Maybe he is better at threading than at small screw removal; hope so anyway. For those of us who have gone through the learning curve on them it has been a trial, from time to time, and not one I wish on anyone. At least he didnt mess one up and/or strip out the head.
Make sure you clean out the goo from the bottom of those screw holes, it can sometimes look like a hole bottom. When installing the rail make sure each screw, one at a time, will tighten the rail down before doing the bunch. High quality screws are worth the price.
