Welcome aboard Matthias!
This is a great website full of volumes and volumes on guns , hunting, sports, fishing, and sundry other interesting topics!
On one of my trips to Europe, Austria was one of my points of destination. This was back in the very early 90`s! My first cab ride from the airport in Vienna to the hotel was very informative! The cab driver and I got to talking about guns. He relayed to me the incident about the terrorist trying to attack the airport back about the same time that the Athens , Greece airport had been under a terrorist attack. Seems like the Austrian law enforcements agents had gotten wind of this terrorist attack that was to take place in the Vienna airport and setup an ambush for these terrorist! The cab driver said the Austrian lawmen were armed with Steyr rifles and the terrorist were subdued very quickly and efficiently! It has been several years since the cabbie told me about that event , but it still remains in my memory bank!!
Also was interesting to see the elevated deer box stands alongside the fields as we landed and took off from the airport!
Anyway hope you enjoy the website and any information you have on Austrian firearms especially the single shot rifles will be greatly appreciated. Also any shotgun info!!

Hi Guys!
What a welcome!  :D

I come from Salzburg, its in the near of Berchtesgaden. Nice place for vacation.
Gun laws in Austria are better than in Germany, but they are getting harder every year. We can buy Bolt Action and break action rifles (no single shot pistols!) without any licence but with a background check. Break action shotguns also, but everything thats Semi Auto needs a special licence. No matter if its a rifle, shotgun or pistol. And you get a visit by the police every five years where and how you store them....
Military style semi auto rifles are very tricky. There are just 3 versions that you can buy. The Steyr AUG (Semi), the Sig 550 and the AR 15 from Oberland Arms.
Pump action shotguns seem to be very evil and dangerous, even more dangerous than semi autos, because they are totally banned since 1996.
Dont question the austrian gun laws and dont even try to understand them, the guys who are planning them also dont know why and what they are doing...

Have a nice day!

We have some common items with you. The people that make up firearms laws in the USA and Canada are politically motivated and somewhat clueless.

Would you consider this a quip?

I misread the title and thought it was Australia! ;D
Nonetheless welcome and I look forward to seeing pics and hearing stories of European hunting exploits.
BTW, don't feel too bad about your laws.......ours Down Under are worse. >:(
It isn interesting that you have the AUG available to you under special licence.
The Royal Australian Army uses the AUSteyr, a licenced version of the AUG built here in Oz by Thales Australia at the Lithgow Small Arms Factory, not that we're allowed to own AUGs no matter what sort of licence we have.

Hey kombi :)
How do you get along down your way without having footlong magazines hanging out from your autobanger firearms?
Probably the same as we do up here. ;)

Wilkommen Matthias..  You hail from a beautiful part of this world..  As close as I ever got to Salzburg was Bad Tolz..and the seventh army non-commissioned officers school there at Flint Kaserne..  That was many years ago, but it was a welcome change of pace from my usual station in Germany....where it seeemed to be  rain...rain...rain..(IMO)
But pull up a stuhl , loosen the straps on the lederhosen and chat a while..
We have a great bunch of folks here, but don't take them too seriously when they are in the "politics and Religion" forums.. ;) ;D ;D
