10" 7tcu for deer/ What bullet?
« on: June 03, 2013, 12:18:28 PM »
I want to use a different t/c barrel this year to deer hunt. I used a 30 herret last year. I have a 10"  in 7tcu. Who has used this length barrel and what bullet/load combo did you use? I have some speer 110 tnt bullet but think these are too soft. I know bullets are hard to get so want to start now so I can get a load set for November season.

I have had good results with the Nosler 120 gr ballistic tip.  Both deer I have shot with it were down within 50 yards.  Both shots were complete pass threw's so I didn't recover the bullets, but both exit holes were approximately 1 1/2". Shots were between 50 and 75 yards.

Here's my wet newspaper tests with several different bullets in my 10" 7mmTCU.  It's an eye opener!

I think that the 120 grain ballistic tip is as good as it gets. After reading your results again (I had read the article before) I see cant see any good reason not to use the soupcans. I always enjoy your information. Thank You

Back when I had one I always preferred the Sierra 130 grain handgun bullet but it has been discontinued now. The only other one I used was the Nosler 120 BT. Now that Sierra stopped making their excellent 130 SSP bullet I'd go with the 120 BT.

I use 120 grain ballistic tip with good results out of a 10" barrel. :)
