crimp is needed only when using the slower burning, hard to ignite powders, and when bullet movement either deeper into the case from forces encountered within a tube magazine, or when in a revolver the bullets try to move out of the case during recoil. I do not use any added crimp with my single shot guns chambered in .44 mag.
In my Ruger Super RedHawk, on the other hand, I use a roll crimp, the factory crimp Lee die seems to shorten case life. Now if you have the collet die, and do not bevel the inside of the necks, try it.
