MEMORIAL DAY

To all on GBO have a Great Memorial Day. I just want to say, ''THANKS'' to all who have served and still serve. Your Sacrifice and that of your families is greatly appreciated by me and my family. Been there, done that back in teh Southeast Asia Conference days. Again, Thanks and God Bless, John.

I agree with every well said comment you made , however the main reason for Memorial day is to honor those who have given there all for this country.Please put their memory first on this day

We give thanks for those brave men and women who made all this possible through their sacrifices.  Now we just have to protect and preserve what they were willing to fight for by preventing those who would take it all away from ever reaching any office where they might be able to do so.  Our church has a special prayer we repeat each Sunday for the men and women in our Armed Forces, at home and abroad who are currently serving in uniform anywhere on the planet.  God bless all our veterans.  Gerald+

For most of my 60yrs I have been going to the tiny country cemetery with my Dad and whatever of the rest of our dispersed family can make it, as well as others from that community. It has had the distinction of being started about Wisconsin statehood in 1848 and having a very large proportion of veterans, and the earliest I can remember finding was the War of 1812, and the latest Iraq. I have to say that this place has always had importance to me, it has come to mean more to me as the years pass, and especially now with the changes this country is going through. For some years few attended the ceremony, but it has been picking up of late, with more young people and their kids. I didnt count, but I est. about a dozen were there this morning, in a light rain at 8 am. I cant help but think that we would be a better place if more consider what this day is about other than a 'holiday'.
I remember.

2 years ago we went to DC and rode in the Rolling Thunder Ride, went to the wall and found the names of 2 people I knew, went to Arlington cemetary and seen the changing of the guard at the Tomb of The Unknows. All of it really makes you think of all we have to be thankful for and the sacrifice that all our military people make so we have all this to be thankful for. Thank you to all past and present.

It was the best of times and the worst of times, but the time spent was worth every minute to secure what we do here every day.

An aging vet once told me this about his time in Vietnam. I like to think of it as "a million dollar experience that I wouldn't pay a nickel to do again." However, I have gone back twice now. I think they got their nickel's worth outta me this last time. ::)

I'm sorry to get here late.  I had misgivings about visiting here at all.  It's hard for me to do so with a dry eye.  My seven years service was during Viet Nam.  I have a lot of buddies buried and more alive and disabled.  I can remember and accept the dead, but the disabled tear me up every day.  One of my best friends, shooting, hunting and social companion is one of those  Fred is a 100 percent disabled Viet Nam veteran.  He's fun, optomistic and a great pal.  I've known him for perhaps 20 years.  He's proud of his service...Wears Army hats and tee shirts just about always.  I think he probably sleeps in them. ::)   I miss the guys I served with who are gone, but the disabled are here and now and growing in numbers.  That is why, like Dinny, I support "Wounded Warriors".  I should say I try to follow Dinny's example.  He does far more than I do.

  In my early war fighting days, I felt sorry for those wounded and disabled vets. Now I have a whole new perspective. Some of them have shown me how they were able to grow stronger than ever before, even after losing all kinds of body parts. Seems to me they appreciate life so much more after nearly losing it. One, my old platoon sergeant, is helping me right now to be recognized with a long overdue Purple Heart. I was injured during the same attack that took his leg and some of his fingers. One of the 82nd Abn Div guys lost all four limbs last year while we were deployed together. He is an inspiration to all who meet him. I've never seen a person happier to be alive!
