I assume that you're talking about the mortar that's currently up for auction on e-Bay (Coehorn British Mortar Black Powder Cannon Reproduction Cook's Arsenal Works). I've never heard of Cooks Arsenal Works before, but it appears to be a pretty rough casting, and it seems like someone has already worked off some of the detail around the muzzle. The description says it has a steel liner in the reduced powder chamber.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

I am going from memory but I believe Cook was a small time producer of cannon out of Conn. He was in his 60's when I met him back in the 1980's He could produce nice work .... it's a pity his label had to be on the front of the peice where it becomes an historical inaccuracy and has been noted the rim detail has been removed I would price this like a iron mortar since it has such a large liner and missing detail and label where it can be seen....... it will take some work to make it look right.....

Alright perhaps I am wrong from the one photo of the muzzle it appeard the entire bore was a liner the write up says just the chamber.... so there is a bit more bronze than i first thought.... still has issues though..... besides what I already mentioned there is no radius from the chanber to the bore... it appears to be flat.....

Beyond the fact that there seems to be some sort of  anomaly  between the chamber liner and barrel--corrosion or separtion maybe, I don't see a problem with this mortar.

Larry Cook was a very enthusiastic cannoneer from CT.  He made cannons and shot them at games and various events.  He had a bad cannon accident resulting in serious injury to himself,  which was written up in The Artilleryman, sometime in late 80's I'm guessing.  Think he passed away in 1990's but not sure about that.

Without being witty, let me say this again---It appears the chamber liner is separating from the barrel for some reason
