What stock you have the best luck with wood, synthetic?

You have any trouble with the synthetic stock cracking from the cold or field use.
For some reason the just seems sturdy.

For hunting use and durability, I prefer synthetic.  Wood is for pretty, most of my guns are "use" guns..so most of them have synthetic stocks.  If I get tired of black, I can go to camo..if I want winter camo, I can repaint it.  Wouldn't likely do that to my wood stocks.

I don't see any difference winter or summer.  It can go to 100 in the summer (the whole day of it) or minus 30 or 40 here in January or February.  I like camo stocks, so I've been putting camo Lams on the heavy kickers for a little more weight and camo syns on the little guys.  It works and I like the way they look.  The shorty camo synthetics draw a lot of attention from folks......and that's even before I shoot them ;)   I think I've made more than one Handi convert shooting the shorty Maxi, .38-55 amd .356/.358.  I get a startled look and questioning eyes that ask "That little bitty rifle can do that?"  A shorty .45-70 is in the works and I think a shorty .445 Super Magnum will be born tomorrow.  I'm gonna chop the 22 incher.

I agree with the voices above.  All depends on looks, functions are the same.

Both will work and perform under a variety of conditions. Both have therir issues in extreme conditions. I have had a synthectic stock warp when left in a hot car. I have had a improperly sealed and too green a wood stock twist when it got exposed to damp conditions. Having said that I like a properly sealed and finished wood stock any day. You can do a little more with a wood stock when it comes to bedding, both action/full and pillar. Easier to bed wood than synthetic.

Thank you fellas. I picked up a couple of the camo sets, the texture on the outside feels a little more like gritty for a better grip. Time to dink around a bit more with them with my winter gloves on. Folks are going to think I'm nuts out there with winter gloves on in 80 degree 90 degree with shorts.  ;D

Until a few years ago everything I had was wood. I have two synthetic now, one straight wood and one laminated wood. Add a Rem Nylon 66, probably one of the oldest non wood stocks around and I can't see any difference.  They have been hot and very cold. We don't get any hunting here when it is hot.

I'm just finishing up for the day playing with my newly chopped 16.75 inch Handi .445.  Tell ya what...I'm gonna put a camo lam with a good recoil pad on it.  After about a dozen hot rounds you feel it with the factory black synthetic that's on it..  I don't know what kind of masochist shoots those and .500 S&Ws with a handgun, but sure it ain't this guy.  A friend of mine told me a while back that his grown kid broke his nose and glasses with a .500 revolver.  That's fun????  The extra weight is sometimes nice with the laminated stocks.

No thats the way it came out of the box and I just installed it. I did put an o ring on the forend. maybe its the angle causing opyical illusion but it fits and works well for me.

Without a doubt, my Handi 45-70 with the aftermarket pistol grip just flows into the shooting position faster than any others I have and I'm a south paw..

I prefer Laminated wood. It is the best of both worlds in my opinion. The beauty of wood but with added stability. There are a bunch of world war 2 rifles that are still floating around with them.
