Pillar Bed Forestock
« on: June 05, 2013, 04:34:43 AM »
Has anyone pillar bed the fore end or forestock on the contender?
Is it as simple as drilling the bolt holes in the fore end  large enough to accept aluminum tube, cutting, and epoxying into place, and then inletting the barrel channel?

I didn't pillar bed my G2s, simply used a couple small washers between the forearm and barrel. This floats the barrel and has worked very well for me.

Great idea. Did you epoxy in place?

I do exactly as Flynmoose said. The only difference is, I went to Lowes or Home
Depot and found a pkg of WAVE WASHERS  7MM. I alighned them to match the contour of the bbl and put a small drop of super glue inder the high side of each washer. This has been the best improvement I have found as it requires no drilling etc. Be certain that you put a release agent( shoe polish paste wax ) on the screws as to prevent gluing them to the forearm screw etc. Also put some wax on the bbl also. Work quick so as to make certain the washers aligh with the bbl contour. I have 3 Encores and have done this for my son and my daughter. Best poor man fix ever.
I think you will find a great inprovement in accuracy.         Jim    <")))><
Spokerider  If you can't find these, I will stop by the hwde store and pick you up a pkg. Another thing. DO NOT let the rear of the forearm touch the frame. If the forearm touches you will need to sand or drimel out these points. That forearm need to float away from the frame.  Good shooting to you

Jim, thanks for the wave washer tip.
I think that may just be for the encore though, as the contender barrels have the top hats......the little top hat looking things that slide into the barrel dovetail and are tapped for the screws. These  are flat on the bottom, so flat washers should work. The encore, if I recall does not have top hats.

You are correct about the contender. Flat washers will do the job

I used silicone to attach the washers on the G2 forearms. I use small o-rings on the Encore forearms. Get an o-ring that will retain the screw when off the barrel. Tighten enough to secure, leaving them loose enough to move slightly when gripped by hand. It will then pass the dollar bill test for floating the forearm. Both methods improved the accuracy of my G2s and Encores.
