Some of the people getting those loans, needs to have their head examined as well. They look at it as free money, and they have no intention of ever paying it back. One woman that works with my wife owes over $150,000.00 and laughs about it.
I met a woman a few months back, that I dated back in the early 70s. She is working as a Custodian at the Gym I go to. She was getting off so I took her to Denny's for pie and tea. We sat and talked about what had happened during the last 40 some odd years. She has been married four times and divorced four times. Found out she was taking classes at UAF. She told me as long as she was taking classes she did not have to pay the loans back. She has been living on her student loans for years. How much does she owe? Will she ever pay it back? Probably not, I think she owes more than she could ever make in what's left of her life time.
My son Skyler graduated two weeks ago. He is a Biologist, and working in the Research Lab at UAF. He starts his masters Program in the fall. Sky has no student loans, and now that he is working in research he is getting grants for the work he is doing and to continue his education. These are not Federal Grants, they are from Private Industry. There are ways of getting an education with out taking out loans. It's called work. Skyler worked many different jobs while he was going to school. His ability to operate equipment helped him get the higher paying summer jobs. And he stayed at home where he did not have to pay rent. He looked at moving on to campass but decided that was just too much money to live there. He could buy an awful lot of gasoline for what it cost to live in a dorm room.
By the way, he has been approached by recruiters from agencies in DC. They told him that if he came to work in DC there was ways to get his student loans forgiven. They were shocked when he told them he had no loans.
