Chevrolets
« on: May 31, 2013, 01:36:10 PM »
I use to like them.  But the pop up adds are distracting in the extreme.

I know, I know, "If you can't stand the heat . . . "

I'm not to that point yet, buy I'm wearing my mouse out deleting the adds.  I mean after so long, they don't get read at all, just deleted.

I get them when I use Explorer.  I don't get them with I use Mozillia Firefox.  So guess which I use.

That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

It seems pretty funny that a standard Crown Vic with a 4.9 engine will stomp a mud hole in
Chevys Impala SS with the LT1 motor. Outhandle it also and in fact can stay up with a Lotus.
Standard Ford grandpa car it can even be a taxi cab with 250,000 miles on it and it still runs like
the day it was new. Plus get 22 MPG if you keep your foot out of it.
Pulls 10,000lb payloads as good as any truck, a trunk so big you could hide five a Jimmy Hoffas
in it with no problem. 1000 pounds of tools in tool boxes and she doesn't even squat.
Get rid of the 250 tires and go to 235s and she will go off road with no problems.
IMHO, the Crown Victoria was the finest car ever built bar none.
Police, Military, emergancy services, and the common man all swear by them.
They are the number one resale value out there for more bang for the buck.
FORD.  :)  Chevy, who is that?

I don't doubt it for a minute Oldshooter I've seen these cars do this. They are tough as a boot and
built like a 3/4 ton truck! I watched a Dodge diesel crap out pulling a boat and a simple Crown Vic
got that boat back home. I've seen guys put nobbies on them and go off road hunting rabbits.
Like Ford or not they sure made a winner with this one.
The only problems I've heard about them is the headliner sagging and that stupid fitting for the
heater core leaking above #4 cyl making it miss. Put some JB weld on it and its all fixed up.
Autozone sells a headliner repair kit for $65.00, other than that not much will stop a CV.
They ride great, run like a hot rod, transmissions that last the life of the car, and the 4.9 with
overhead cams is a screamer. Best car ever built and they are already on their way to becoming
a collector. I'm looking for one but I want the 4.9 engine in it.

Oh Chevy please, 75,000 miles and your buying a transmission. Dodge, the dash vents fall apart
and the body comes unglued. And you always see a Ford towing a GM.
If Dodge and GM are so wonderful then why did they need a bailout? Ford refused it and that was
considered as un-American? Mazda made the Ranger, and a Ranger is twice the vehicle any other
truck its size is. Toyota land Cruiser? How about Toyota wallet bruiser.
Nothing in this class could hold up to a Bronco including that GM what's its name.
Ford family's are tight, Chevy family's need to be retorqued.  ;D

Thanks Anna, yes the Crown Vic was awesome, as were the various Galaxies,  good old days.
Had a Dodge Dart with the 300-6 and a Caddie.
All Ford otherwise as G-d intended

And thank you my friend. Mr.Otto my have perfected the IC engine, but Mr. Ford made it practicable.
How do I know all this stuff? I have three hot rodding brothers and this is all they talk about.
Boring, except the Crown Vic thing did catch my attention.
Galaxy was before my time but I hear nothing but good about them. Mopar is ok but Fisher had the
best body styles even if they were GM. And they still do when they put thier minds to it.
The GM Aztec has to be the ugliest car in history. Next to the cats eye light arrangement that GM
used for awhile. And the Avalanche? Fiberglass truck type bed what were they thinking?
Buy a Ford, it may not be flashy but it runs.

Dunno what you are talking about. We have no such ad on this site. Most complaints seem to be about the dashboard ad which stays at the very bottom of the page so shouldn't ever cover anything you are reading.

We have a rotating banner at the very top of each page but it can't cover any posts cuz it's at the very top of the page well above the threads. Below that is our logo. We then have an ad that runs the width of page above the threads but shouldn't cover anything unless you click on it or with some (very few) maybe if you hold mouse on it. Then we have the two ads that are below the first post in each thread.

Unless you are talking about one of these which should never cover anything you are reading I dunno what you might be seeing. If it isn't one of those mentioned it ain't coming from this site even if you see it while on this site.

My dad liked Chevys but he bought me a ford for my first car and I've bought a lot of cars & trucks since then. But I'm never as happy as I am in a ford, F150 4wd. Short, wide bed of course.  ;)
I liked the Big 6, 300ci with the tranny that had the granny gear. When they guit making them I just started buying auto transmissions.

My first ford was a 1955. The one I drive now is a 2005.

That 300 six showed up in a lot of things, we used to have one as an irrigation motor.
Dad swore by them but Chevy used to make a pretty good one also.
I guess the EPA killed off a lot of the good engines or it was the computerized thing.
A Mopar mechanic told us it was the fuel economy thing more than anything else.
I'm jokeing around, big three car talk is like fishing stories it sturs up a big laugh, but I can still
remember the old AMC cars from when I was a kid.

Jeep saved Chryslers rear end just like it did with AMC. And Dodge did do the right thing by
introducing Cummins into a real diesel truck. Before that I can remember all the complaints about
that 350 convertion that Chevy tried to pass off as a diesel. Which made no sence because GM
owned Detroit and the EMD division. Fords 6.0 was ok but it was a fuel hog. I know all this because
my family tried them all before settling on the Dodge which I have to admit was a winner for its time.
Anyone who has ever tried to get around on WV dirt roads when they are rain soaked knows
that the Dodge 4x4 3/4 ton diesel is a real go getter for that.

In my familys neck of the woods some of the farmers ( moonshiners ) used to buy those surplus
deuce and a half trucks before the Dodge came around. I think some of them still do when they can
find one. And Mopar was always thier car of choise for the transportation and distribution of thier
so called commodity.  ::)   But its like my uncle used to tell me with them " Anna don't you think its
funny that those farmers don't own a single bit of livestock but live in some real fancy houses"?
Its the same thing out here with some ranchers there is no telling what they are growing out there
in the desert somewhere. One of them was busted back in 02 with 10 tons of that stuff that just
happened to crop up in a wooded draw on his property. Imagine that and I guess Mother Nature
rigged up that irrigation system and put up that chain link fence to keep the critters out also!
Airplane caught him what a duffus.

I STRONGLY agree with this opinion!

I will not buy NEW from Chrysler or Cheby's, I will buy older used ones.  ;)   If I ever buy new again, It will only be a FORD.

No GM and Chrysler didnt take the bail out, they took the bait. Commie motors both of them and
the new Dodge cop cars don't hold a candle to the Crowns.
So cops are getting SUVs now because police interception in high speed chases is now a no no.
City's like Roswell are pushing the life out of their Crowns now. There is even a company in
California now that is refurbishing the Vic's for police departments.
The Impala never did the job for the police even with that corvette motor, it was still another Chevy
dog with glued on doors. Hoods that fly open for no reason, transmissions that crap out right after
the warrenty expires. Let Obama have em, give me a Shelby GT Cobra like Steve McQueen used to
drive and I will be your friend for life.

About cop cars, have you heard of Carbon Motors? Fascinating. Out of Atlanta I believe. The world's first purpose built police car. Lots of cool features, and price competitive with conversions like the Dodge. About the Crown Vics, I wonder who got threatened at Ford to make them discontinue them so that Gov Motors would get the contracts. I guess that's my conspiracy theory for the day.

Addendum, found this bad news:

Scuse' me, i meant Dodge with a slant-6, my 2 ford pickups had 300-6 engines, the journals were huge.

I have heard dodges have a gear in the tranny  held by a threaded bolt, if it comes loose you lose the tranny, the repair
uses a pin  that is peened.       Also heard the caravans had soft valve guides.
