wideners bullets
« on: June 08, 2013, 04:43:40 PM »
found on Wideners page, 5,000 75gr hpbt bullets for $629.00 delivered. Ordered them late Tuesday. They arrived just before 5pm Saturday. Poor Postal worker, package weighed over 55lbs.  It made quite the thud when it hit my sidewalk. I could not pick it up. Had to turn it end for end. Lifted it onto a small rolling stool, then up onto my 4-wheel wheel walker. Then I rolled it into my loading room. I pulled one bullet at random, 75.1gr by my balance beam scale.

Now I have to get to work and clean my 5.56mmN brass, find my loading dies, etc, etc.

So far I have used range pickups for brass.  Clean, decap, sort by brand, inspect, etc,.  Then I reload them.  So far no trouble.  Seems the Remi's are the most damaged.  Primers seem to be the hardest to find.  Found a shop about 30 miles from here, and would only sell two boxes of each type per person.  So, I took a friend and my 21 year old son and got 6 of each.  Already had some, but got these for additonal insurance.  308 brass seems to be harder to find also at my local range than 223 brass.  Kids from college just go spray their AR's and 9mm's.  Lots of that brass.  Also lots of 40 S&W brass.  Before deer season I can find a lot of 30-06 and 270 brass as well as 30-30.  Another brass that is hard to find at the range is 44 mag.  My friend needs 30 carbine brass and bullets.

Things are getting a little bit better, but not much.  22 lr's are finally showing up, but are limiting sales.

When I get some more money, I think I am going to buy a 17HMR rifle and maybe a 40 s&w.  Seems no one gave out of ammo on these two during the shortage.  Might even buy a 22 Hornet.  I saw a 22 Hornet pistol at a gun show at a good price.  I priced out the materials for a 22 Hornet.  Not counting brass, bullets, primers and power cost about the same as 22 mag.  Brass should be able to reload about 10 times.  Something to think about over a 22 mag weapon.  Oh, also 38 sp and 357's were still on the shelf during shortage also.  Hmmm.

Sorry if I hijacked the thread.  How long did it take to get your orders filled?

the bullets arrived in 4 days.  The .223 brass would have shipped next day but I told them to wait until the .308 brass was done. It is processing now.  I ordered the brass yesterday. It will ship Monday or Tuesday next.

They have most anything you could want in once fired brass including .30 Carbine. In fully processed they have 9mmP, .38 Special, .40 S&W, .45acp, .223, .308, .30-30 and .30-06.

I need to get to the range to pick up .223 brass for my 55gr plinking loads. The processed brass will be separated, weighed etc. for my 75gr HPBT long range loads.

No worries, thread not highjacked, merely expanded. ;)

Is Wideners on the internet?  If so, do you have web address.  Most sites I have visited are out of everything.  Friend of mine has two 30 carbines, one for his wife, and one for his son.  He uses an AR.  He is very short of 30 carbine ammo.  If we can find him some brass and bullets and the dies, I can reload him some.  I asked him why he didn't just trade the carbines in for AR's, and he said they were comfortable and familier with them, and he has had them for about 30 years.

I ordered my brass from    www.americansecuritybrass.com   I phoned them. It was difficult to hear at first because the guy was in the back working on the brass.  They are very easy to talk to and accommodating. I wanted only 200 pcs of .308W but that was fine.  He asked if I would wait until the .308W was ready so it could all go out in one package. I told him that was fine with me. I could have had him ship the .223 the same day!

They list .30 Carbine as available in once fired and fully processed.

I am sure you can find some guys to split the cost of the 5k pcs of 75gr HPBT.

Good luck.
